David Furner Why he came to the WT's

I have said it before,Benji has to prove he can coach at top NRL level first and foremost..
Many great players have tried and not succeeded in coaching at that level over the years...With Sheens and Furner at the helm he will have every opportunity to be a success...

Agree. He is going in blind and his support network will be key with his early success & if he becomes a coach long term.

Furner is a very good pickup

I have my doubts but if there was ever someone to do it, Benji is probably one of few who could prove us all wrong.

To me, the biggest part is the group buying in.
If the squad is committed, and will fight defensively for their team mates . . . we can have Ronald McDonald on our D coaching staff, and it will still be effective.
Absolutely agree. It's about attitude and all the blokes around you working hard together. That's where leadership on the field is so important and players holding each other to account and setting standards. The very reason I use to get filthy when you hear about blokes whining about training too hard or complaining about anything that implicates lifting your work ethic. Here' s hoping some of the new recruits set some of those standards for others to follow or Furner will wear the brunt of disappointment that others have had to endure before him.

There were quite a few people said the same about Wally. Sheens has been very clever in the way he is placing pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together.

I think Wally would have been a better chance as he would plan 2-3 tackles in advance what he was going to do .....Benji planned 2-3 nanoseconds before he made his move

But you never now ....for our sake I hope he becomes a supercoach

Defence has improved markedly, now just need to give the attack coach a kick in the arse to get things moving in that department.
I think the attack is moving, but to go forwards I think at times you need to regress to a base level and rebuild. You can see how much the attack has been simplified over the last few weeks. It has gone from being frantic with lots of errors to simple with high completion rates.

I'm pretty sure that the coaching staff had high expectations of AD and Brooks behind a good pack and were seriously let down by the ability of both plyers. I trust that we have stripped it back to the basics so we can build from a solid foundation.

From the drop off plays and run arounds you can build an attack around some wide running middles with the edges and centres providing second phase runners. Well that's what I expect is coming as there has been seemingly no effort to run block plays or similar to throw shape at the opposition.

Now that we have it simplified to the level that Brooks and Wakeham can execute it repetitively now is time to add in a simple X/Y play and vary the kicking game. They are the basics of any offensive play and once they can execute them in contact then we can work on doing them with shape and as part of a slingshot play.

Probably need a couple of new halves and beast centre to get there though.

There were huge question marks over his appointment. He took on one of the hardest assistant jobs in the league. Other than one blip in 2018, we have been atrocious defensively for more than a decade. A number of coaches came in, vowed to fix our defence, and failed.

I agree with @Jolls. The coaches stripped back and simplified everything. League has changed a lot over the last 100+ years, but one thing never changes: no matter how big, fast or strong the athletes become, if you run hard, tackle hard, and work hard for your teammates, you'll go a long way to winning the game.
