While it is depressing reading "no upcoming matches" on the Home Page it was good to see David on Saturday nite continue his good form. There has been a lot said about Marika since his debut but if memory serves me correct if David wasn't injured he would have got the call up for 1st Grade not Marika. Interested in everyone's thoughts on David's potential, best position and timeframe for being ready for 1st Grade.

Whats he like in the centre's? Ayshford needs to go IMO if we can find a suitable replacement. If Nofo can't play centre i'd be inclined to try Moltzen, Sirro or Grant
 
Nofo is a very damaging runner of the ball and had a great 2011 season and a cracking start to 2012\. Unfortunately he didnt play much footy this year as he was battling leg injury after leg injury. There have been some reports that he isn't the most focussed trainer and needs to increase his professionalism if he wants to make a go of this. Can definitely see him bursting onto the FG scene just as Marika did. Will be a great replacement for Utai when he retires - very similar styles
 
Yep was thinking same thing… Seems strong in defense and a very penetrating runner..And did you see the try he scored that won us the game on Saturday..great hands to pick up Millers cross Kick running flat out!
 
I didn't see him play but he had at least one game in the centre's before his last injury & since he's come back, he's been on the wing. From memory Nofo was centre & Korro was outside him that day.
 
Whats his passing like? One of the biggest negatives about Beau and Ayshford as centres is their poor passing ability, Lawrence is very good at putting his winger away but Aysh and Beau rarely do it.

And for those that have seen alot of him, whats his defense like? I no its hard to gauge in the 20's but our centres defense has been woeful this year
 
Nofoaluma has more than enough talent to become a very good first grade footballer. He was given an opportunity to train with the top squad last summer and then didn't show up to training. Missed his opportunity as a result. I think he'll be given another chance this off-season and I hope he takes it with both hands because the Tigers are crying out for an effective right centre. They didn't get it this season with Ayshford or Reddy who were both below par.

If Nofo takes a leaf out of James Tedesco's book, he could go close IMO.
 
He was a fullback when younger, then came across Tedesco who pushed him to the centres. I have only seen his name in team sheets as a winger since coming in to the NYC.

centre is the hardest position to defend. i would always start a centre on the wing first to see if they are defensively capable.. iirc lawrence started on the wing and so did inglis?

Ayshford would defend much better at lock, and has the ability to break tackles and get the arm free. Get the support players running off his hip and teach him that it's OK to offload in the middle of the pitch and he'll be very effective at setting up broken and second phase play.

Nofoaluma has speed and strength to play in the centres. Might be a little "small" by today's standards as a centre, I reckon he could handle it quite well.

Really interesting what you said about Aysford at lock. I'd really like to see it (FYI Blake is the same weight as Blair)
Also, what's the evaluation on Nofo's tackling ability?

Blake in his younger days played lock & 5/8th for the most part, he will get wider over the next few years as he folds out more and lock wouldn't be a bad position for him.

Not sure on his tackling ability so we should keep an eye on him tonight and hopefully get a few more looks when the NYC Tigers progress to the GF. Willow mentioned he got an offer to train with FG in last summer but didn't turn up. Anyone know why? Also , did Marika get the same chance and has David been signed up for the next couple of years?
 
I have no doubt he's good enough, but my issue is how does he break into this side? Sheens very rarely changes a thing, no matter how bad someones playing. He's a very loyal coach, and its well known if it wasn't for injuries that Koroibete wouldnt of seen 1st grade in 2012.

So with the usual band occupying the outside backs such as Moltzen, Ryan, Ayshford, Lawrence, Utai, Koroibete and Tedesco possibly, I just don't see him getting an opportunity anytime soon. Sheens also just doesn't pick positions, he just picks outside backs. Sheens will find a way to incorporate Utai, Ryan and Koroibete into the side even if it means one of them is completely ineffective in the centres.
 
I'd like to see how David goes on Utai's wing either when/if Matt is injured or move Utai to the bench and use him as a forward for his aggressive damaging runs and defense.
