THE Daily Telegraph can reveal that the new chief executive of the NRL is senior banker David Smith.

Smith is the chief executive of Lloyds International, which is based in Sydney.

His name will be revealed to the media at 11am today at Moore Park headquarters.

Smith takes over from David Gallop, who was sacked by the NRL in June.

He has no previous experience in rugby league.

News of his appointment has been kept so secret that senior NRL staff are still to be informed of the decision.

Jeez I hate releases like this… "His name will be revealed to the media at 11am today at Moore Park headquarters."

Well no you've just revealed his name!! And my guess is that the NRL fed that info to News. It's like when sportspeople announce a press conferences the next day and tell you what they're going to say in advance as in "I'll be announcing my retirement tomorrow" when actually they've already done that!!

From Rothfield's article:

"I'm looking forward to all the challengers."

There's so many typos in that idiot's article it's not funny.

Interesting snippet on the new CEO:
Is a Welshman and served in the British Army including counter-terrorism unit

I've read a few articles where he has already been written off. Give the bloke a chance.

Love to be a fly on the wall at the first management meeting

David Smith : 'Vautin, Gould, Sterling, Politis, Rothfield? You're telling me that these guys formulate policy and procedure?' lol

After concluding the interview, Smith said he had to return to his job at Lloyds International, and wouldn't be contactable on NRL matters until he officially begins the job on February 1.

Snippet from the article I read in SMH, obviously he must still be under contract until January as he won't be officially starting until Feb 1.

A-Z guide for new NRL CEO
Nick Walshaw

David Smith admits he knows next to nothing about rugby league. He doesn't know who Johnathan Thurston is or any other player for that matter. So Dave, if you want to be a true league fan, take this guide, pin it to your office wall and learn it by February 1

A FOR AGENDAS

Rugby league is the Afghanistan of Aussie sport. Arm yourself.

B FOR BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT

Dumbest rule outside having to indicate off roundabouts. Sort it.

C FOR CAM SMITH

Australian captain. You may meet him one day.

D FOR DALLY M NIGHT

Like the Brownlows, but a Lowes version.

E FOR ENTERTAINMENT

Only one rule, when Meatloaf calls about the Grand Final, say "no".

F FOETAL POSITION

Learn it. At some point you will assume it.

G IS FOR GUS

Oh, don't worry … you'll meet him soon enough.

H FOR HOME LOAN

Any help reducing mine would be appreciated.

I FOR IMMORTALS

No, not NRL coaches. The other mob.

J FOR JT

Other useful acronyms include GI, SBW and, should you be dealing with the Knights, IOU.

K FOR KHODER

Manager to the star. Found beneath white bucket hats.

L FOR LOCH NESS MONSTER

See also, Rugby League Players' Association.

M FOR MICHAEL SEARLE

Was touted to fill the role you're in now. Worth Googling.

N FOR NO TRY

Usually denotes that a legitimate try has been scored.

O FOR ORIGIN

Remember Macksville, Minto and most of New Zealand lies within Queensland.

P FOR PARRA JESUS

Never, ever forget the fans. Even those who believe they're a deity.

Q FOR QUEUES

Get in one. Doesn't matter if it be for a beer, a leak, or a photo with the Manly cheergirls.

R FOR RAUDONIKIS

Drives a Brisbane cab. Consult on all big issues.

S FOR STEEDEN

Like a Gilbert, but touches the white stripe far more often.

T FOR TATTOOS

Fans, players, cheerleaders' mums, everyone has one. Start with Ned Kelly.

U FOR UNWIND

You won't, so put the banana lounge on eBay.

V FOR VOLLEYBALL

What this game isn't, so bring back the shoulder charge.

W FOR WARREN

Ray Warren. Sounds more beautiful than hearing your Lotto numbers called.

X FOR X-FACTOR

Youtube Billy, Benji, Haynsey ... and "James Graham/granny".

Y FOR Y

Like why does ANZ Stadium charge $6 for plastic cups of mid-strength beer? Needs sorting.

Z FOR ZZZZZZZZ

What we think of your other great love, rugby union. Please, never mention it again.

He'll carve up imo. Better than anyone with allegiances etc.

Have to say I agree here, a fresh look from someone outside the game and not in the boys club.

The product has really sold itself for the last decade and it needs someone innovative to come in and boost the self-development of the game.

Yeah he should be a great signing , didn't he resign after losing a billion dollars at his last posting and got some whopping pay out

Exactly what the NRL needs :unamused:

Where was that at Happy??

I must say it seems odd to have someone with no idea of your product come in and take control….as someone else said, he may well be a mere lackey

CEO of Lloyd's based in Australia Not sure of the payout ,but it was in Millions

I think they are different company's Happy… This guy is a banker?

Weird selection is my first thoughts. This type of clout is someone who should be on the Comission, not CEO of a sporting organisation that oversee's the running of football games?!

Something isn't right???

There's the confirmation Watto ,I'll try (when I have both eyes open) to find the article I read which stated the info I posted

Lloyds is a bank

Yes it made losses under his watch, but as a result of actions of his predecessors. He cleaned it up.

He'll do a good job.
