CULT Wests Tigers figure Liam Fulton is set to remain at the club following the departures of Bryce Gibbs, Andrew Fifita, Wade McKinnon and Todd Payten.\
\
Forced from the club in 2009 due to salary cap restraints, there was a touch of deja vu when Fulton was told he was free to negotiate with rival clubs last month. But with the impending departures of Gibbs and Fifita, Fulton confirmed to The Sun-Herald he had agreed to stay at the club and see out the remaining 2½ years of his contract.\
\
''I'll probably end up staying at the Tigers now,'' Fulton said. ''With 'Gibbsy' and Fifita leaving [to join Cronulla], Wade McKinnon [Hull] and Todd Payten [retiring], it's freed up a bit of room for me. It's pretty much sorted out. I won't be going anywhere. I've got another two years on my contract after this year and will see that out as it is.''\

Fulton revealed he had given serious thought to leaving the club for the second time in three seasons in the best interests of the Tigers, and was quietly relieved he wouldn't be going anywhere.\
\
''I don't mind doing my part for the team and having a look around, but I left it with my manager, and he had a look around, and a couple of teams were interested, but at the end of the day I told him I wanted to stay,'' Fulton said. ''I always had a contract at the Tigers, and my intention the whole time was to stay. At the end of the day, if I didn't want to leave I didn't have to. It was always up to me. I sniffed around at a couple of different clubs for next year but at the end of the day it probably wasn't best for me or my family.''\
\
And in true Fulton fashion, he quipped he wanted to challenge Benji Marshall for the five-eighth role.\
\
''Who knows? Back in 2008 when Benji got injured and I played four games at five-eighth, I said to him, 'Look at all these kids wearing my jersey,''' he said.\
\
On a serious note, Fulton said being grounded in Auckland last week could be the catalyst for the Tigers rising from the ashes and making a charge to the finals.\
\
''Coming from behind is pretty special over there, and I think with all our flights being delayed it was a blessing in disguise,'' he said.\
\
''Everyone enjoyed each other's company and we had a great time. Just hanging out with each other, I think it was good for the team. I think it'll be good for us on the field.''\

This is my first post and just wanted to mention to things….

1) awesome news, although I rate Gibbs higher I think Fulton staying will provide good morale for the club and..

2) Tigers fans get up early to read the news!!!

Btw.. Been reading the forum for a while, as a know nothing genuine fan, it's great to hear the points of view from people that know a hell of a lot more than i do. (bout the game that is, not the politics!)

Welcome aboard Bob. I agree that it is good news that Liam will play out his contract with us.

McKinnon and Payton don't worry me as they have injury issues, but we'd better have a very good reason for losing Bryce and Fifita, because we will miss both of them. As far as I'm concerned, Blair alone isn't a good enough reason.

Yeah at this stage, I'd have to agree, especially losing Fifita. I hope we are picking up more than just Blair.

Fifita > Fulton
Gibbs > Fulton

… made the wrong decisions here.
But ohwell, stuck with him for another 2.5

It wasn't a decision Demps - no one wanted him. The club would have preferred to off load him rather than Fifita or Gibbs.

He is a good player and if he got on the roids or he played at lock behind a dominant set of front and second rowers he could be really good. Unfortunately when we struggle for go forward he isn't the man to turn too.

Lets see if what Liam said was true this week . That being stuck in NZ has bonded the team back together . We should know by 5.00 this afternoon

Clubs in damage control, didnt expect the back lash from within the camp and also from outside the camp over the departure of Gibbs and Fifita. As for Fulton going, he needed a better offer from another club and I dont think that happened so of course he is staying.

I think he has plenty to offer and Iam glad we are keeping him. Cant wait for the Sharks clash in 2012, Gibbs and Fulton tackling each other!!!!!

Thats true imo.

Much like us giving Malaysia 800 ferry passengers and we get 4000 in return….someonse getting screwed and they dont even see it.

Ink - its true but I doubt the club wanted that decision to be made.

It comes down to the salary cap and the players other teams want. I bet they are lining up for Fifita, some for Gibbs and none (at what we are paying him) for Fulton.

Blair will be good for us if we have him(does anyone know if we do yet?). I think the rest of the team is pretty solid but we are lacking a really good quality fullback. What happened to that Mullaney bloke? Do we still have him?

he is a schoolboy well a man in a boys body dont need him also swap ennis fo farah mr nothing man soft as a wet sao farah for rock man ennis and friday will prove this again i think. i mean when are we going to buy players.

Oddly, given the way Sheens used to love playing 2nd rowers up front etc, I believe that the backrow is actually a weaker position than prop moving forward- given that Galloway, Woods, Groat, Begovich & Murdoch-Masilla are on board. Blair will probably be a 'tweener' & be able to cover the front row like Payten has done.

The backrow however has Ellis, Heighington, Dwyer, Fulton & Shirnack….keeping Fulton could be a bigger need than first thought.

Given that Heighington, Dwyer & Ellis are a pretty formidable backrow, maybe Blair's position will be prop?

Some have suggested Ellis to Prop. Given Fultons size I think he has to be a straight swap for Heighington. Rhino and Blair in the second row and Fults at lock for mine. Dwyer off the bench, he lacks impact, doesn't have the engine for 80 minutes IMO.

Pack for next year

Galloway
Farah
Blair
Ellis
Heighington
Fulton

Bench

Woods
Dwyer
Groat
BMM

Blair and Ellis can rotate between prop and second row like Payten use to.

Sheens will never player 4 forwards off the bench

Never say never. Round 11 of this season for example.
