Despite all that promise, Benji Marshall's lost his way

Rothfield is 100% on the money with both claims.

Benji is not apart of the elite in the game at the moment and Nate Myles was wasted by Sheens in the test match. Bravo Phil, you have struck gold finally.

As a West Tigers supporter I am very sad. Tim Sheens was the coach who nurtured Benji and tried his best to make sure that he had his feet on the ground. He publicly criticised Benji when he did not have his mind on the job. May be it is time for Benji to curtail his media committments and concentrate on the bread and butter job at had of playing well for the Tigers.

Give a monkey a typewriter and eventually he will write something meaningful.
The article has some truth to it albeit a bit exaggerated.
In my opinion Benji hasn't "taken the line on" enough this year. Its all been catch and pass.

I agree with the article in the most par.

However.

Devils advocate, Benji did the lead teh NRL in Try Assists and Line Break assists.

Of course the errors were 2 high and the running game was missing, as I said, scoring plays are the big ones and Benji did well in that dept.

I'm glad he was lining up against us last Saturday .
Once again couldn't pull the rabbit out of the hat.
Seriously hope the new coach can get him back to his best - but it won't be easy when he's used to doing as he pleases.

Special; Talented; Exciting are the words that sum up Benji… He is lacking that 1-2 extra steps to be called a Great Footballer.

Time for Benji to be apart of the Team Structure moving forward!

You could have said almost the same thing for Lawrence in 2012\. Its the off season and Buzz needs to amp up the hits on the website, Tigers news good or bad sells.

Benji had a bad year….not new information Phillip.

Pretty spot on. You only have to look at Benji's metres run for the NRL season.

His once greatest asset has been coached out of him. When it apears he now calls it a brain explosion.

Luckily for us he still knows how to set up a try though.

Omagad, Benji didnt systematically run 90 yards to score 5 tries per match on his own, sack him !
How on earth do you come up with a statement saying he had a bad year when the stats show the contrary !
When he razzle dazzles people complain, when he plays strategic people complain. Sorry guys I found him good this year, not spectacular but good. His kicking was better, made tons of assists and line breaks and in a couple of matches mystified hie opponents (dragons under the rain..remember ?). He had tons of pressure as a kicker, Robbie being out of the game for various reasons and it aint easy for him to shine when his partners keep getting injured.
The absolute stupidity of people who analyse this game is mind-boggling. "Cameron Smith, CC, JT must be way better than Benji coz they made it to the finals" ! These guys teams were playing really well, the tigers weren't. I'd like to see how other playmakers would have fared in Marshalls conditions. Reminds me of the footy show. When a team wins, you say how good they're playing. When a team looses, you say how bad they're playing. That's what you get when ex-players are considered brilliant analysts…well they're not. plus the stupidity of saying that a games outcome depends on Benji. Surely after this season you have to see that it depends just as much on Robbie.

Benji needs a coach that doesn't take his talent for granted and is keen to hone it and utilise it. For a couple of seasons Sheens stuck him out of position and wasted them trying to make Benji something that he isn't.

Let's hope his next club coach helps him fully realise what he is best at - a game breaking runner of the ball and excitement machine who can also set up plenty of tries with deft ball distribution.

Take the pressure of a kicking game away from him, give him a decent half-back inside and re-unite him with Lawrence and a fast winger, and a proper fullback. He'll be back quick-smart.

He better hurry up and get back to good form he ain't gettin any younger!

And he will when he is playing in his right position not half!

OK,just my opinion but Benji's kicking game this season has been a shadow of previous years, sure some brilliant stuff but a lot of poor options and for some reason he's developed a complete mis-kick when he tries some of the elaborate side of the ball stuff.
The Tigers kicking game overall in 2012 was not on the same level as the 2 GF Teams, even Cronulla & Canberra were a much better package than us,it may relate to poor Forward play but its the death knell of a team prospects in the modern game.,again all this is MO.

How many players have ever produced over 30 try assists in a season, playing most of it out of position and had people saying they had a poor season? Play Benji at 5/8 paired up with an organising halfback who is first grade standard and he will win plenty of games, but when he has to organise the attack himself he struggles.

Maybe that is why he produced so many try-assists… I wonder how many he wouldve created playing at 6???

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
