He's ok @jirskyr but it's still pretty dodgy math. It's a bit like reading (good) fan fiction. He's had a very decent crack at modelling the game similar to xG in soccer. I appreciate that he looks at what data he can get his hands on in a fairly thoughtful way. It's not just counting everything and saying that big number good - small number bad etc. But at the same time he's got his paypal link everywhere and talks about 'artisan small batch' data. Stats and probability aint Beer.

I wouldn't bother comparing stats from 2016 when the game had different rules, 2 refs, and different players. Tries come from sequences. Not a shot like football does. Rugby league is such an intangibly brilliantly, human game and that's why Wayne Bennett is still the goat. There's no data for getting absolutely belted in a tackle. Stats are super important game by game... and per season, but reducing things to neat predictive models in our code like Baseball or Tennis, just cannot be done.
