Discipline

Ive just shown that we were one of the better teams for discipline last year.
This year we are in a tight competition for the worst.
There is no favouritism, we are not being picked on, we are not being made an example of...ITS ON US.
The inconsistency with forceful tackles was on view for all to see this weekend - the three notables from top three clubs. The inconsistency is a refereeing issue.

Our own poor performance contributes to our losses a lot more than referees, but their tendency to apply the sin bin / send off when it’s one of our players has not helped this year at all.

How many weren’t warranted?
I’d say maybe a couple of the sinbins and the sendoff - which could have been a sin bin.

I can think of 3 or 4 that were match defining. If we’re sitting on 7 or 8 wins we’re probably calling this a fairly respectable first year for Benji. At least in comparison to what I expected. I’m also including occasions where our opponents weren’t treated as we were for the same offense.

Which ones were match defining?

Frustrated players , Poor coaching , Poor quality roster
this is what is creating our issue of poor discipline.
The current roster is not nrl strength , it is right where we sit , worst in comp and last placed .
The coach has not got into their heads about dropping of when behind , they start to do dumb things but the coach leaves them on the field .
The 2 above points make a frustrated player and it needs to be sorted .
we also need to get the 3 most penalised or burned players aside and drill them or move them on ,
I like Hetherington as an aggressive nasty prop , we be great for us BUT he would cost us games , spend more time off the field , we can’t buy that , i would go Hunt or Sifiti , Reg Campbell Gillard

There are 4 games where I consider the outcome was affected by the sinbinning/send off of players and of those, I think one of them was the fault of the officials.
  • Round 11 could have been won if not for the boneheaded antics of Naden and Olam, whose combined self sabotage costed us. This is not on the refs however, it is on the players.
  • Round 18 was an arm wrestle ar 12-16 when the binning occured. It was a clear foul and it cost us two converted tries which was the final margin. This is not on the refs however, it is on the player.
  • Round 20 we were still in the contest when Sezer went off. It pretty much snuffed out our comeback. This is not on the refs however, it is on the player.
  • Round 22 was a game we were competing in and doing well until the send off which left us a man short for half an hour. It seemed a harsh penalty and we havent seen conclusive evidence since that it was justified. It cost us the game.

Great research & analysis @Tucker yep we could easily be a couple of positions higher on the ladder.

Discipline
Scoring points and dropping the ball in the next set and letting the opposition score. (Numerous times)
Inexcusable for a Veteran or Rookie.
Another Wooden spoon,
Would you really feel any better if we finished 2nd Last ?

Finishing 2nd last is not as widely discussed and documented as winning the spoon. If we finished 2nd last we may even get recognised as being on the way up. This could help with recruitment and retention?

Finishing 2nd has the same ramifications in history. Not on the field. Atm we are busy rewriting NRL history. At least we will be remembered more than the runner up.

Somehow I can’t see finishing 2nd Last being a deciding factor for a new recruit thinking of joining our team.
It will come down to the magic Dollar 💵

Makes me laugh to see ref must be frightened to upset Ricky as the MRC puts heaps more Raiders on the charge sheet than the ref "noticed " LOL
