After being dropped by the Wests Tigers for end of year, off field indiscretions then being picked up by the cowboys just to be found guilty, suspended & banned for a season.

The ban is almost over, however with the amazing emergence of NQ Cowboy's young half-back Michael Morgan - do you think we'll be seeing much of Lui in first grade?

Personally - I think after showing a lot of talent & potential at the tigers, this year off/suspension/ban is something he will never bounce back from.

He's behind both Michael Morgan & Ray Thompson at NQ and I think it's doubtful he'll be seeing much first grade in 2013 and years to follow.

Your thoughts?

A year is a long time away from a Rugby League field, but plenty of players seem to make comebacks from season long injuries…

Roberts biggest challenge is discipline away from the field... If he can manage himself professionally, hopefully he will make it back to playing NRL.

He is a better player than both Morgan and Thompson, and there is huge rumblings Thurston will not be in Townsville in 2014?!

Another club will snap him up for sure IMO if he doesn't get a run at NQ. He did show a lot of promise (his defence was dodgy though). His off-field dust ups have outweighed his talent so far, but yep, he will get a gig somewhere I am sure

He has the talent and experience so someone will sign him the only question really is how he responds and if he has used the time to get his personal life in order.

I feel he will find it tough and expect he will only find a scattering of games in the top grade over the coming years

What an intelligent way of looking at it!!! The bloke obviously had a problem with the booze. I acknowledge what he did was a disgrace. He's doing his penance this year and by all reports he's turning his life around off the field through plenty of community service and psychological sessions. I wish him all the best and hope he has a long and successful career from next year on!

He had a long career at the tigers if he didn't stuff up 2 years in a row, but through his own stupidity his career looks over, he has only himself to blame and I wouldn't care if he never played in the Nrl ever again as I would never lay a hand on any woman

I can't say I'd be upset if he doesn't play another first grade game in his career, he should be thankful that he even has the opportunity to.

I'd have him back. He's payed the penalty, he's got positive reference's from people of authority and most importantly he's back with his wife, he has her support and she has forgiven him. Anyone with a brain knows what he done was unacceptable but next year he's free to play NRL. If other clubs find it worthy of another chance, so should we. Don't go shooting me, I'm just having a say.

to all the holier than thous on here i do hope you never make a mistake in life ,i dont agree with what he did twice a bloody disgrace but forgive the man give him a break again leave justice to the courts

As it turned out, Robert Lui was effectively the first player loss we suffered in 2012, a year when injuries dominated our season. Second was Tedesco, 30 mins into the season. Ellis, Lawrence, Galloway, Sironin…. and finally Robbie and Liam for the last chance games at the end of the season.

As for Lui, I agree that he has paid the price and things seem to be looking up at a personal level. Someone will pick him up, it could be us as far as I am concerned.

imo people like lui, bird, mason, sbw etc. should be treated like crap coz they treat the game like crap. it's not the tigers' fault lui effed up, yet we lost our halfback for the season… not our fault.

Lots of talent, but he is also repeated offender, kicking his pregnant wife, this guy really has some issues.
We cannot have double standards, on one hand support 'women in league' and support guys like him.
He deserves to be tackle target for 'Cement' Gillespie, 'Axe' Gillmaister and 'Raging bull' Tallis ;(

I've made plenty of mistakes, but I've never hit a woman, much less a spouse, and I've never broken the law. Big difference between taking a leak on a secluded tree to belting seven shades out of a woman.

He belted his missus not once but twice. Even if it was just a mistake, if you make the same mistake twice (especially when it is a massive one like his), you have serious issues. As far as I am concerned he is very lucky he can play in the NRL again.

I think you may need to discuss Robert Lui's future in the QRL , not the NRL

I reckon the Cowboys will brush him with the form of Thompson and Morgan

His possible saving grace might be as a back up to Segeyaro off the bench with Aaron Payne retiring
