Do we "need" to drop a game?

Have been interested in the comments on a number of threads relating to the Tigers run into the semi finals.

One school of thought is that we need to lose a game before the semis to take the pressure off… that expecting the team to win 12 straight games (to win the GF) is simply too much.

The other side of the coin is that the Tigers need to keep winning to climb as high as possible on the ladder and maintain the good/winning form.

So what are your thoughts?

Would it be better for the Tiger to drop a game now to get it out of their system, or just keep on winning all the way through to the first weekend in October?

You never "need" to lose any game. We will win our last 3 games probably lose our first finals game if we finish lower then 4th then win the last 3 and the comp at the sane time

i say keep winning till after the world club challenge.

a loss in these last 3 games seems as though its a little lazy. Why should we lose to these 3 teams left?

NO.

This team thrives on momentum. Five wins in a row is great momentum - we should all know how hard it is for the Tigers to get this momentum, so let's keep it going.

I dont think we need to lose one, It is difficult to stay "up" for so long, but i reckon we were a fraction "down" against the Panthers and can prob not be quite at our best for one or all of these 3 games and still win.
We of than of course have to be "up" again for the semies.

All of that sounds like cliched pysco-babble  but i guess youy know what i mean

Whether or not we think the side does I bet you Tim Sheens is thinking it.

Remember in 05 that terrible performance against the Panthers in I think the second last round, I have always thought the players were…how should I put this? Foxing?

A loss will take some pressure off, we love being the underdogs and perhaps a loss to one of these weaker teams will have our semi-final opponents believing we are a lesser team than we actually are.

In hindsight however compared to 05 we need an extra win or two which might change the situation.

I think the game against the Sharks last round is a perfect lead in to finals football.

They play with a level of intensity that is not matched by skill sometimes but that constant pressure is a good lead in

I tend to agree with the theory. I dont think we have the consistency to win 12 games in a row like Melbourne does. I never want to lose but it could be good to get it out of the way now or next week rather than the last round or the first week of the finals.

WRONG. We need to win every game from here on out and if we do drop a game it will be the first one of the semis. and the likeliness is that manly and melbourne will not lose their first games so we will still be there the following week.

Pretty sure the dragons dropped a game and look at them now still dropping them.

The whole idea about losing a game is rubbish. the more wins a team has the more they gel and the greater confidence they have leading into the finals.

I know what i prefer

If we were leading each of our past 5 games from start to finish, I may have thought we need to drop one to get used to being behind and working towards coming back. Since we have come from behind in most of the games I don't think there will be much benefit in losing. All you want is for the team to have been tested in the final rounds of the comp, and I think we have had our share of tough games.

Keep winning, no matter how ugly. As we know it is a different ball game in the finals and I've got no doubt the Tigers can lift and improve further, but right now the goal needs to be for the Tigers to finish as high as they can which comes down to winning as many games as they can.

That's why we need to win the rest of our games and not drop a game so we can develop consistency leading into the finals. If we dont lose a game and we win the rest for the season(8 in a row) then we would be showing signs of consistency to hit 12 in a row would we not?

After supporting the Tigers for so long, I know we are due for a game where we bomb 7 tries, Benji misses 3 goals and we lose by 6 points (or something similar to that). Personally, I would prefer it would be in the next 3 games as opposed to dropping a semi final. I hope the team proves me wrong and we win them all!

I kind of feel the same way.

I dont think we NEED to lose, but i think we may well drop a game in the next three. We have shown in the last few weeks we are ready to bring the intensity for finals footy, i just think we may not aim up as much against the opposition we have in the next few weeks if it looks like we'll comfortably be in the 8.

Titans / parra will be battling to make sure they dont get the spoon and it wouldn't surprise me if we let them out of the bag.

On the other hand my heart says we will win them all 13+ and i will be backing the boys all the way home!

Drop a game that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard you win every game you can !.When you start to think this way you might as well give it away!

We are mentally strong enough to win right up to the GF.

Rather then drop a game, I want to see us win strong. Not necessarily by allot of points, but by not clocking off for half a game, not relying on 50/50 calls etc.
