Hey All

Just wondering if anyone might be able to help me out

Looking at getting a New Dual Cab 4x4 Auto in the next few months I have always liked the Navaras but if anyone would suggest something else that they think are better ot they found when they bought theirs

I'm not into the Holden V Ford thing so will look at almost anything bar a Great Wall (and i still don't think they have them in Autos in Australia anyway)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Happy

It would be the big 3 for me, Hilux, Mazda BT series or the Nissan. Not a fan of the Mitsubishi's, blew a Pajero up, had a 2000 Magna Sports, and a Challenger, anything with the 3 litre motor is a no no, the 3,5 is good, all developed oil leaks around the head, even under warranty, but they just tighten it until the warranty ran out. The turbo deisal's have high maintenace costs, so to me, it would be a choice of which style and body shape I prefer out of the three. If it is a work ute, the hilux and Mazda are fine, but if it's more for off roading the Nissan is far the better, especially in comfort. The dual cab ford, the ranger, is made by Isuzu, which is the same as the Rodeo, just rebadged, but Isuzu put out their own under their name and it's the Dmax, a very good vehicle from all reports. My mate has one on gas, and extremly economical.
Hope this helps, and your right, the great wall does not make an auto.

My personal choice would be the VW Amarok. It has just been made available with an 8 speed auto. On road, it is class leading and the diesel is the most economical. It is also capable off road.

Best of the rest, the new Ford Ranger has received good reviews, has a 6 speed auto and is very good off road. The Mazda is pretty much the same, although I prefer the look of the Amarok and Ranger over it. The Hilux is tough, but is using older diesel technology compared to the others. The Amarok has the best diesel technology.

Ranger would have been my suggestion over the Amarok.

I find them to be on pretty level footing but when it comes down to servicing and replacement parts the VW takes a disastrous hit

The Ford definitely wins in that regard Smeg.

It all comes down to what you want and are happy with in terms of servicing etc which I guess is dictated by use and km's driven

Our service blokes at work have just gone to car allowances, and one of our supervisors has an Amarok and he rates it highly.

I've not driven a Ranger but based on my experience with the Falcon utes, I'd avoid Ford as a work vehicle like the plague.

Really CB. Still have my work ute, 285,000 km on the clock. Worst thing that has gone wrong so far is at 205000 km the LPG switch gear went, including the tow it only set me back $250

Thanks for all your help everyone

Talking to a mate who came over on Friday and a work mate of his got a Ford Ranger and he raves about it Great offroad and heaps of towing torque and power

There's only one issue Ford in Gladstone service team are absolutely useless We owned an EB wagon and had massive issues with their service team (Not the car itself ,replaced a water pump and a regulator in the life of the car)

They once delivered the wrong car to my work , seems the frequency of the central locking was the same as another car (they told me the odds were 1000's to 1) and they brought that one Quotes were always $200+ dearer than initially quoted and would never ring to tell us and would wait hours after initial agreed pick up time

Yeah Smeg, blew two diffs in six months. Vehicle wasn't overloaded and I never flogged it. Colleagues had the same dramas.

You need to be careful of all Service Departments. I am thinking of selling my Jeep Cherokee, and buying the wife a Honda Jazz, so I googled up some information on them.
It seems some Honda Dealers service departments are charging customers $1500 to change the timing belt at 80,000 K, but the only problem is the Honda Motor has a timing chain, which never needs changing, only a minor adjustment, and then only if it gets really rattley.

Find out all there is to know before you trust any car dealer, there is more than enough information on the net about any subject, not enough people use Google.

The Ranger and Amarok are currently on top.

The Ranger is based off the BT50, but the Mazda is ugly as hell (a bit cheaper though).

The D-Max and Colorado are also essentially the same ute just a different badge.

I'd go the Ranger.

My god there's some really bad advice here.

Ford ranger no: don't fall for reviews as they get paid by the car manufacturers

VW Amorok: no, no , no way too expensive, mahal only and motor is useless unless on freeway.

Last time I heard pajero isn't a dual cab ute, triton however is. Brilliant car highly recommend turbo diesel, auto or manual.

Hilux: much , much cheaper than previously, lots of free extras in the sr5, sat nav, rear view camera, Stability control, etc, etc

Would go the hilux atm….....

I've had heaps I'd duallys.

Ps. If u want to save money, go the triton.
10 year drivetrain warranty, 5 year whole car, but you won't need it, it's bullet proof and the best dual cab off road by far, these people bagging Mitsubishi havnt owned one ine the last 5 years,

Hope that helps
