Just heard on 2gb that Ellis is out of the all stars game and maybe the start of the season with a groin injury

Anyone heard anything? Couldn't see this posted anywhere

That's the first we've heard of it. Big blow for the Tigers if he misses the start of the season. Hopefully that's the only injury he picks up this year if that's the case.

isnt this what happened last year just before the all stars game???

so who comes in? Second highest rating tigers player no matter what their position or does it have to be a secondrower?

Sheens interviewed on tonights news says Gareth has a groin injury which the doctors suggest only requires rest. The news reporter says Gareth may miss the first comp game.

Because the team is selected, I think its a second rower who gets a callup from Tigers.

Heigno I reckon.

Hope he has a good rest, groins can be very annoying. If he misses the start of the year so be it…....one door closes another one opens.

That's how I see it. If we're full strength otherwise I'd imagine Dwyer starts and a young gun like Murdoch, shirnack or moors come in. Obviously they're no Ellis but their not exactly bums either, so much depth this year!

Nope, the two Tigers forwards selected were Ellis and Farah, and in the backs it was Lawrence and Tuqiri.

Fulton replaces Ellis in NRL All Stars
>
Wests Tigers forward Liam Fulton has today been named in the NRL All Stars team for the second Harvey Norman Rugby League All Stars match, to be played on February 12, at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast.
>
Fulton replaces team-mate Gareth Ellis, who has been ruled out of the match with a groin injury.
>
“It is disappointing for Gareth to be ruled out but I will make the most of my opportunity,” Fulton said today.
>
“The All Stars game was a great spectacle last season and I am really looking forward to playing alongside some of these elite players under coach Wayne Bennett. I’m very excited.”
>
The ‘Learn. Earn. Legend!’ Indigenous All Stars will name a replacement for injured Test forward Sam Thaiday later this week.

"Chris Heighington wasn't considered as Ellis' replacement because of his own ankle problem, and Fulton has graciously accepted the opportunity."

So Heighington would have made the All Stars but his ankle ruled him out…while I am sad for Heighno, Fulton getting a run is great news. He is an underrated footballer in the NRL and certainly won't let anyone down.

I think his initial selection will upset a few casual league fans who don't know much about him, but I reckon he will shut them up once he gets on the field.

Good luck to him!

I've got no inside knowledge but I'd guess (and hope) that Ellis's withdrawal is somewhere between precautionary and completely unnecessary - rather like the minor injuries Ryan Giggs picked up every time Alex Ferguson didn't want him to play for Wales…

From smh.com.au

"Wests Tigers forward Liam Fulton has been called into the NRL All Stars side to replace club teammate Gareth Ellis, who was ruled out with a groin injury.

The 26-year-old had a stint with English club Huddersfield in 2009 before returning with a strong year for the Tigers last season.

Fulton, who has never played representative football, said he's looking forward to showing what he can do in the showpiece match against the Indigenous All Stars.
