ENGLISHMAN Gareth Ellis will return to Australia this morning and likely be rushed straight back into a Wests Tigers outfit desperate to lift their game in time for Sunday's blockbuster against the Dragons.
The Tigers made 19 errors and completed just 61 per cent of their sets to somehow beat Penrith, and players were still trying to work out how they secured the two competition points as they attended a huge fan day at Leichhardt Oval yesterday.
The one positive for the Tigers ahead of the trip to Kogarah is the addition of Ellis, who has struggled with injury and was sent back to England by coach Tim Sheens to freshen up.
Sheens said Ellis and Benji Marshall had both endured long seasons last year because of the Four Nations, but with Ellis so far from home, it made sense to allow him a hit-and-run trip to see family and friends.
"He had a week and a half where he continued to treat himself and train," Sheens said. "He's had a few injuries and had his foot in a boot, so by sending him away we thought it was the best thing to freshen him up."
Keith Galloway was concussed against the Panthers and missed the fan day, but Sheens expects the prop to be aided by the eight-day turnaround.
