ELLIS!

Forced my self to watch the game again and one thing i noticed was, how many tackles Ellis fell off or missed i have not seen him miss that many tackles in a whole season. This is not a knocking of Ellis as he is a great player but i think he must be carring a bad injury. Did any one else notice this.

Please do not turn this blog into a knock Ellis segment" please", i just mention it as i was surprised at what i seen.

He had been carrying a groin injury for the latter part of the season, which is why he sat the Eels game in rd24.

Perhaps he was feeling the effects more than normal when playing on Friday night?

I noticed he hurt either his shoulder or high on his chest early in the 1st half. And he looked considerably slower on Friday night. Obviously struggling with his ongoing groin injury. Is he going to play in the tri nations or is having surgery? Was still one of our best. One of my favourites is Gareth.

i noticed that, like you reluctant to be too critical of a player who has been so good to us for so long.

He's been awesome again in 2011 but you are right a few times out there on Friday night he was "off" his usual game.

Will be better for a break!

Wasn't just the game vs the Warriors, he was falling off tackles in the games against the Gold Coast and the Sharks also. His injuries must've affected him more than he let on.

NRL stats have him missing 4 tackles for the game (also 4 for the Titans and Sharks games), which has been about average for Gareth this year. So either his defence was not as good this year as it seemed to be last year, or maybe we are just noticing his misses more?

Sternum injury , got knocked again Friday but with Bryce gone we needed him to keep going.

Top player but injuries can affect performance , watch Locky just fall off em this week.

Exactly. Sheens said after the game on ABC Ellis copped a bad knock to sternum in the 1st half.

That'd make sense, he was doing too much arm grabbing instead of put his body behind the tackle which reconciles with that. While the stats might say he only missed 4 tackles in the Titans and Sharks games he was still imo arm grabbing and giving away plenty of meters - i wonder if Ellis had been nursing that sternum injury for some time and vs the Warriors had the injury flare up again???

Hopefully he'll fully recover over the off season and come out firing next year.

Did any result in tries ??
I think Lui misses one for the second try and another that lead to a big break which lost us field position

Take it easy Happy, Mateo broke through Heighno(I think) first. You couldn't get any odds for Lui stopping Mateo that close to the try line. In fact, I don't think a big forward, one on one that close to the line would stop him.

And with the way that Mateo carries the ball, even if he were to be stopped just before the try line, he would be offloading to someone who would be across the line for the try.

Yeah a sternum injury would certainly affect tackling ability! So would a groin/adductor issue, which could slow lateral movement and also result in using more arm than shoulder in some tackles.

Get well Gareth we want you firing on all cylinders next season!

Glad people cleared that up, as i said at the start he is a great player and does not deserve any bagging, it was just so unlike him. Get better and have a good rest, a truly great player.

Barely the point of this thread.

Just posting here to be rid of that creepy, schizoish ''make it stop'' thread title.

Ellis….boy we'll miss him when he goes

We still have two more seasons with him, and he's like a fine wine - he'll keep getting better.

Spose I don't want to see what happened over the next six years what happened to balmain over 1988 to 1994 -

team CHOCK full of internationals, all the way down to wooden spooners….
