Ex Wests Tiger David Gower named in Dragons

David Gower has been named in the front row for St George this week.

Interesting how he goes as from last year's forum posts he is highly rated by some of our
members. Many called for him to be promoted.

Good luck to him. Harrison for Canberra is another player we let go and he has turned into a
good NRL player and played for his country.

Bennett has the ability to turn fringe players into good NRL players. Great coach.

Sheens seems to be the last each week to submit our team. Must put it in the post. (LOL)

Moved this to the NRL section.

It is always good to see a local junior making his mark in the NRL. Best of luck to David. It wouldn't suprise me to see him start from the bench but I feel his game matches up well against the Warriors style and size of pack

I personally rate him higher than Dwyer or Jase Schirnack and always have

Yup and lost by one point going back to back, just edged by Scott Porter

I havent seen enough of David. But think trying to compare him with Simon Dwyer is a bit silly. They are very different style of players and obviously Gower is, at 26 years of age, quite more developed as a footballer than Dwyer.

In terms of potential and the needs of our side, I would take Dwyer over Gower quite easily.

See that David Gower has earnt himself a starting spot in the St George Illawarra Dragons side to play the warriors on sunday at Mt Smart Stadium

I saw quite a bit of St. David… How he never got a shot at FG is BEYOND ME!!
- Great ball handler.
- Runs great lines.
- Great Offload.
- Leaves a dint in the line every time.
- Plays BIG minutes
.... All of this at NSW Cup level of course!!
I believe we held him back, At any other club he'd be a household name...
How Flano got a run in the BR week after week last year ahead of Dave spins my head???
Wayne Bennett is no fool, And after last night he would be taking next week even more seriously... And he's STARTING Gower!!
In a few months I have a suspicion we all will know why.
GOOD LUCK DAVEO!!
Great Player, Top Bloke!!

I like him and was unpset to see him let go. That said you can't keep them all and we have got the likes of Fafita, Woods and Shirnack. Not to mention this young Begovitch.
I can only assume the Dragons offered him better money. He did get 5 mins or so for the NRL Tigers so I think Sheens may have had him on the radar for first grade, but we probably just couldn't justify paying him more than the Dragons can.

In any case Woods has him covered adequatley and he is much younger too. I really like this kid. By the time he's Gowers age he would have played over 100 NRL games.

I do wish Gower the best of luck though.

He was not offered a contract by the Tigers and he was given the chance at the Dragons.

At the Tigers he had to take leave from work to get into off season training. The Dragons are paying him. Coach Sheens never saw him in our plans and that is the life of a footballer, you go where the best opportunity lays for you. After that it is up to you

Sorry I didn't realise his situation. I cant understand that really. Sheens makes his mind up and sticks to it though. Hard to see what he didn't like about him. Anyway anyone in their right mind would take the Dragons option considering.

The Dragons have a lot of front rowers out injured. I don't say this to downplay Gower's achievement in getting a run, but these things have to placed in some perspective. There is a massive difference between NRL and state cup - just ask Scott Porter!

Anyway for his sake I hope he proves Sheens wrong but I'd have to say by-and-large I'm pretty happy with our forward retention.

Should have given a taste of NRL about 4 years ago but didnt and then David left Wests and went to play in Europe. He then came back to Sydney and played well for BRET. He was always a step above everyone in the NSW CUP. His father was a lovely fellow aswell. I am on a self imposed ban so I won't go where I usually go from here on . . .

Yeah Bug the club even told him if he went from Balmain to Wests he would improve his chances of an NRL berth but it wasn't to be.

The reality is that this is in the past however and I wish David all of the best this weekend but wish better fortune for the Wests Tigers players running around on Saturday night

He had a berth of sorts… When it didn't matter!! Last game of 08 (No chance of making the 8) and he DIDN'T look out of place back then.
I rate him highly... Always have!!
And am sad to see his hard work and loyalty go un-rewarded
He is a West Junior yeah???
