Experience at Campbelltown

I’d love to see a survey of who attends LO and CSS, and how many supporters there are who only attend one or both.
Without starting a fight the crowd always seems to buzzing at LO, is it a little more intimate, CSS seems to have more space, if you know what I mean.
Let’s see what happens Thursday and compare crowd reaction, the man on the Mike and anything else that’s relevant.
OP can you please provide a comparative report ! ( assume you’ll be there).
Thanks in advance !
I went to CS last night but im a leichardt regular.
The atmosphere issue is the same at leichardt. I think at stadiums like commbank the noise bounces around.
Rugby league crowds also arent European soccer crowds, so its much the same no matter who you go watch in the nrl.
It says alot if we rely on an MC to pump the crowd up. But i thought the crowd did a bit last night.

Taking kids to both venues is shithouse. Facilities etc are rubbish. But im a LO lover so I make do.

Fans at Leichhardt have been going there their whole lives. I'm 66 and stand in the same spot in front of the stand I've stood since the rebuild, and I see the same aging faces in their same spot every game. There's a tradition at Leichhardt.
CO is much more recent and hasn't quite got that. Yet. A few winning seasons might change the whole scenario, where rusted on fans will turn up and cheer, no matter what. Give it time.
God I love Leichhardt Oval.

100% agree. Even at big games like SOO the crowd is going nuts as they run out and then when the game kicks off it goes quiet until something happens.

LO was fantastic on the hill when I was without the kids. Not so good now as the kids can’t see and grandparent can’t stand! Getting pretty expensive now for seats.

I notice the later you go to book tickets the more expensive they get.
I wonder if its a supply vs demand algorith they have built into the online ticketing system

It may be due to a sell-out. Now on Ticketek, if an event is sold out they keep the page up and its fans reselling if they can't make it, so the price may be higher due to the added demand of no tickets left

The sound system could do with an upgrade. The music always seems to be excessively loud and harsh. Don’t recall ever thinking the same thing at other stadiums.

And yes, agree with some others that the layout of the stadium plays a part in contributing to the atmosphere. The open ended northern and southern ends of the ground may be letting a lot of sound escape and make the stadium feel vast and unconnected. Not sure what the plans are for the upgrade but closing off one or both of those ends would make a big difference imo.

I thought the experience was good, ground announcer knew when to keep quiet. Only thing missing was a lower grade game before the NRL match.

Went to a couple of Leichhardt games last year and I found the speakers way too loud and even obstructed the view of the game.

First time at Campbelltown.

So easy to get there, we drove and found decent parking.

Got out of the car park easy in my truck by some nifty 4x4 ing.

I was genuinely surprised how small the grand stands are. I sat in bay 31. Mrs and kids sat with player families.

Atmosphere was dull but thats because we were never really likely to win

Kids had Really fun night despite the loss.

After attending our last two home games at Campbelltown, I wanted to share some thoughts on the experience — both the positives and the negatives — and see if others feel the same.

Positives

Decals & Presentation

It’s clear the club has put real effort into making the ground feel like home. The signage on the way in, the “Home of the Wests Tigers” branding on the grandstands, it all makes a big difference. There was also a graffiti mural near the ground which looked awesome. Those small details go a long way in creating the feeling that this is home.

Pre-game videos
The pre-game hype videos and team list visuals have been outstanding. The video last night gave me chills. Showing footage from 2000 mixed with the last few years, with Luai saying "we've built the platform now it's time to rise." The social media team really has their finger on the pulse of what this team is and where we are at as a club. Very professional.

Crowd
The crowds have been great. Even with a strong Broncos presence last night, Tigers fans showed up and made the effort — many, like myself, travelling 40+ minutes. That commitment shows how many of us want a united Wests Tigers.

Negatives

MC

The MC or whatever you want to call him has been appalling. The cringey humour, odd name pronunciations, and complete inability to start a chant did the opposite of what he is paid to do. I. unknowing bought tickets in the away bay and sitting near Broncos fans, I was honestly embarrassed.

Atmosphere
The crowd is there. The pre game music is good but....the atmosphere is dead. In both games there have been moments where the crowd is quite literally quiet. No noise. I think it might be the configuration of the ground that allows the noise to escape. The sections of the stadium 'feel' disconnected. At one point Luai was trying to pump up the crowd...I think he felt it too.

Overall

We need a new Campbelltown stadium. Something resembling Commbank with stands that keep the noise inside the stadium is what this team deserves. A stadium that creates an atmosphere that away fans feel intimidating attending and our boys feel pumped to perform in front of. The fans are ready we just need the stadium (and the MC) to match it.
Very accurate assessment. Im not so scathing of MC.

Also adding train station so close which is so convenient

Go to most Leichhardt games, and those facken speakers do my head in. I get in early to try to avoid them and sit/stand between the ridiculous things. I just don’t understand why they can’t be put on the scoreboard behind everyone.

A huge improvement overall on other years, and you can absolutely tell the club is doing their best to give Campbelltown a little boost on game day.

Hopefully the new Northern grandstand can create the atmosphere the ground needs, but i think it's $100m short of what we need to generate a vibe in the ground.

As much as I hate to say it, Our Commbank games always have the best atmosphere
It’s the config of the stadium , and the acoustics . I think building the grandstand at the northern end should help trap sound in . It’s also in everyone’s head that we are going to lose so when the other team scores points , there’s a sense of inevitability and dread wash over the stadium .
There’s a “we got this” vibe at LO . Which I think is infectious . We just have to keep winning there and trying to slowly change the narrative around the joint .
The game itself though . Was clearly the best match of the round . And fox sports got it right . It was a great game . I said it on Saturday , with the intensity we played , and the gameplan , most teams won’t be able to go with us . We will win way more than we lose . If that’s us in a losing effort , teams that don’t come switched on will get lapped.
The opposition injuries against us isn’t an accident either , the guys are running and hitting to hurt you . It’s a brutal style .

I think it helps to create a more boisterous atmosphere that a lot of the crowd at LO is half filled up with beers before the game … Cambo seems a bit more families so different crowd …

I was at the Cowboys game at LO and the crowd there got quiet in the Second half when the Cowboys scored 2 tries back to back .. even though they still had a reasonable lead .. it’s the PTSD of following this team .. they seem to have a lot of trouble closing the door on the opposition even when they are well up

Yep 15 years of losing will do that to you . This forum on Saturday was a case study in this . People bought into the bullshit that a depleted broncos side was somehow inferior , when you look at the actual 19 men that ran out . Everyone to a man was of nrl standard. and 3 guys in Mam, Staggs and Hass were top 20 players in the nrl . Even at our best you’d probably say we have 1 in Romey. So I felt like that was a false dichotomy which people fell into the trap. In saying that , we lost the game. They didn’t win it . Which is a good sign for this team.
We are top 4 after a quarter of the season . No one would have thought that . So people need to focus on the good rather than fall into the trap of “oh no … we suck again “ . Because we have a good footy team. It’s a little bit clunky . Sure ! We need to crisp that up. But man … 3 years ago we had a spine of Brooks , Wakeham , Laurie and Simpkins/Liddle .
We have come a long way .

Another complaint about the MC.Not from the Brisbane game, but from the week before.

He didn’t even announce the teams were coming in the field. No hype up or anything. It happened for both halves as well.

Our game day team needs to do better.
