Farah in line for surgery, Moltzen to half

WESTS TIGERS' injury crisis is likely to worsen, with captain Robbie Farah set to have surgery on a troublesome groin, which could sideline him for two months.

Farah will meet with surgeon Neil Halpin early next week to discuss the possibility of surgery, having been unable to train properly for much of the season so far due to his groin problem.

While it is still possible that Farah will attempt to push through the pain, it is believed to be more likely that Farah will opt for surgery.

''It has been discussed, but nothing has been confirmed,'' Tigers coach Tim Sheens said last night. ''He has been playing with a bit of an issue, as have a number of players in the competition.''

Former Souths and Newcastle hooker George Ndaira is likely to cover for Farah if he decides to go under the knife, which would likely put him out for between six and eight weeks.

Farah, though, may still play against Sydney Roosters tomorrow, given the Tigers have been decimated by injuries. Over the past week, the club has lost centre Chris Lawrence (dislocated hip), winger Lote Tuqiri (broken arm) and halfback Robert Lui (ankle). Second-rower Gareth Ellis (ankle) has been sidelined since round one.

In terms of the possibility of surgery for Farah, Sheens said: ''A lot will depend on this week, how he goes, how he recovers. It's just week to week with him at the moment.''

The development came as it emerged that Jacob Miller, the 18-year-old halfback plucked from obscurity to help the Tigers through their injury crisis, will likely have to wait a little longer for his debut. Sheens is almost certain to relegate him to the bench.

The _Herald_ understands Sheens will opt to start Tim Moltzen at halfback for tomorrow's clash. Geoff Daniela, who was named on the bench, would then take Moltzen's spot in the centres.

The docs advice will be critical, sounds like the injury might be getting worse or trying to manage the pain is getting him down, if memory serves me correctly, Robbie injured his groin in the cup game against the roosters which was about 6 weeks ago. All the best for your health Robbie.

i was looking forward to seeing Miller run out at 7.
Never see him play, but I like seeing young guys given a full opportunity.

If he isn't going to start Miller it will be a waste having him on the bench IMHO. But we will see how it all pans out

Ndaira will be a good back up, I think we'll get through this, its a long season so there's plenty of time for the players to come back, play at full fitness and make an impact.

Lets wait til game time Shifty just being Shifty I reckon

And who knows Farah might be going to discuss surgery It may be for and end of season surgery Maybe Sheens is trying to take pressure of Robbie so clubs think they only have to watch Benji Very easy to twist words around if you want

George Ndaira looking to be a good buy indeed.
Hope you have a good surgery and quick recovery Robbie.
All the best.

All the speculation of Moltz to 7, Miller to bench is media speculation. Still wouldnt surprise me to see Miller start. Sheens seems to think the world of him.

Im not saying hat he WILL start though.

Why Tim Sheens continues to play injured players is beyond me. Blind freddie could see that Farah has not been able to run for the first four games of the season. We have missed his kicking game and dummy half running, but he is not indispensable. Having him play in is current condition puts pressure on the rest of the team, he his running plays at half pace and making our forwards easy meat for the opposition. Please let him have is operation and have some faith in the players that are fit and available to fill is roll.
