Farah says No.7 won't halve Origin hopes

Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah is confident playing halfback this Sunday against the Roosters won't affect his aspirations of representing NSW at hooker.

It's not the first time Tigers coach Tim Sheens has called on Farah to fill in next to Benji Marshall, but Farah is presently in the middle of a tense battle to reclaim his Blues No.9 jersey from Canterbury's Michael Ennis.

Farah, who played in Origin one and two last year before being dropped for game three, is sure selectors have already seen enough of what he can do out of dummy half without this weekend counting in the final wash-up.

"Look, I don't think one game of halfback is going to make the selectors minds up," said Farah, who is carrying an elbow injury but will be right to take the field.

"I've been playing hooker for over five or six years in the NRL.

"I've been asked to do the job this week by Tim and move to halfback, so my first priority here is captaining the Wests Tigers and doing what's best for the team.

"The coach asked me if I wouldn't mind going there for this week and do the job for the team, hopefully with Rob Lui coming back I'd move back into the hooking role soon. But with the injury crisis we've got going at the moment, the coach saw the need to move me there."

The skilful skipper will play representative football of some description next Friday, but it remains to be seen whether he will line up for Australia in the Test or City Origin in their match against Country.

If Farah misses out for the Kangaroos and plays in the Origin selection match, he may have to forego the opportunity to directly oppose Country's Ennis at hooker and instead do a job at halfback for City - with City halfback options Mitchell Pearce and Peter Wallace both injured.

However, Farah said even at that level, it's all about doing whatever is required of him.

"With Mitch and Wal going down it does leave City a bit short," he said.

"There's a couple of young guys they could throw in, they could throw me in there, again I haven't thought about it and haven't been asked anything about it."

Liam Fulton will move up the scrum to rake for Wests this week with 26-year-old Magpies junior Nathan Waters to make a belated debut off the bench as a cover for the halves and hooking roles.

Farah has sensed the Tigers have lost their direction in their consecutive losses to the Bulldogs and Penrith and said he knows what to do at halfback to get the team back on track.

"I've played there before so I know what to expect. I know all the structure of our club here and I guess what I'll be looking to do is try and give Benji as much ball as I can," he said.

"With the last couple of weeks I don't think Benji has got the ball that he's needed and we've needed him to get so hopefully I can control things around the ruck and provide him with as much opportunity as I can."

Farah joked he will have to remind himself on Sunday not to jump into dummy half at every play: "Instinct will make me chase the ball and get in there, I'll probably have to remind myself not to!"

<phlem>..ullsh.. <phlem>i recon robbie would be spitting chips at this one.
It's no secret that he hated it last time and he almost left the club because of it.</phlem></phlem>

Sheens is caught between a rock and a hard place this week in regards to halfback. Fitzy didn't work there last week and everyone here is thankful he's not in the halves this week…Poor young Lazo didn't play well in his 2 matches and wasn't given a crack at half last week. Whether he deserved the chance this week is debatable IMO. I still think he needs more work in State Cup and while I don't like to see Robbie moved from 9, I do think he will do a better job at 7 than Lazo at the moment. With Lui and Taumata due back in round 10, the Tigers just need to get through this Sunday with the band-aid solution.

and there is the reasoning behind Sheens decision.. personally i think its a good one..

Can't let this one go….Are you suggesting all is not happy at Camp Concord between Captain and Coach?

I think the speculation that Farah and Sheens are on the outer are unhealthy and are completely unfounded unless somebody has some proof. I dont agree with Farah at 7 but then again I didn't agree with Fulton in the 2nd row this year and Tuqiri on the wing either…

if sheens was trying to punish farah im sure he'd just say he doesnt wanna risk his elbow/arm.
i think farah is the best choice this week assuming lui isnt 100% fit and ready to go.
fulton as hooker, guess we'll see..

We really have no other options at half. Who would have thought that ALL 3 halfback possibilities (Lui, Moltzen and Taumata) would be injured at the same time? We are doing it tough at the moment and need to get through the next 2 weeks with a couple of wins going into the bye. I think Farah offers us the best chance of doing that and is a logical selection considering the troops we have on deck.

Thats it, as much as i don't like Robbie being moved from hooker, he is the best option we've got there. I will be interested to see how we use Waters though. I think we need to at least shift Robbie to hooker at some point and give Waters a crack at the 7 though history suggests he'll get 5 mins at the end of the game.

I still think Robbie will wear the number 7 but he will be playing dummy half.

I still reckon Waters will run out. There are other players Sheens woul dhave picked for 17th man far more useful than him as a utility cover for Flannagan it doesn;t make sense to have him named otherwise. As i have said before I think Waters will be in the run out side.

Wait and see what happens on Sunday and who plays where…these articles are s***

Yep. I have a gut feeling Farah wont play 7 but i hope he does. My only issue is with Fulton at 9.

Wouldn't be the first time Sheens has cost Robbie individual honours.

really? I think the only person who has cost Robbie more rep honours is Robbie.

Im of the belief that if Farah wanted to make a career out of 7 two years ago when he first got moved there he'd now be the NSW halfback and captain. And the stress on his suspect back would be a lot less too and it would prolong his career
