Farah's Groin Super Thread

He did it against Parramatta in the trial, I believe.

If he had the surgery then he would be back in 3-4 weeks from now.

Gotta wonder why they delayed it then. Tendonitis is not going to disappear if you play each week.

Farah to soldier on for Wests

ROBBIE Farah will tomorrow lead the injury-decimated Tigers in the face of a painful groin complaint that could require surgery and jeopardise his chances of a State of Origin recall.

The Daily Telegraph last night learnt Farah has been pencilled into an extraordinary casualty ward at Concord after being diagnosed with osteo pubis during the week.

The Tigers skipper had an appointment with noted sports surgeon Neil Halpin on Wednesday and was told the condition had degenerated enough for him to go under the knife immediately.

Surgery would put the talented rake on ice for six weeks, cruelling his hopes of reclaiming the Blues' No. 9 from Bulldogs rival Michael Ennis for Origin I.

But with his side reeling through the loss of stars Chris Lawrence (hip), Lote Tuqiri (arm), Bryce Gibbs (knee), Liam Fulton (shoulder), Gareth Ellis (ankle), Beau Ryan (groin) and Robert Lui (ankle), Farah has opted to bravely battle on against the Roosters.

It's understood the 27-year-old will make a decision on his short-term future based on how he recovers from the SFS blockbuster.

Two weeks ago, Farah revealed he was suffering from "tendinitis" in his groin and has notably modified his kicking and running game so far this season.

In a text message, Farah last night said he met with Halpin for "an opinion", but said he was fit to continue.

"Just saw [Dr] Halpin for an opinion but at this stage I'm sweet to keep going unless it gets worse," Farah's message read.

Farah's absence would be the ultimate catastrophe for the Tigers, who already have close to half their salary cap sidelined through injury.

While Gibbs and Ryan could return next week, the remaining casualties are all out for six weeks at least.

The unprecedented attrition rate has forced coach Tim Sheens to debut Toyota Cup half Jacob Miller against NSW No. 7 Mitchell Pearce.

I give up, how much money will we have sitting on the sidelines then when Robbie is out?

He should be having the surgery ASAP

I think the Tigers will have close to $2million sitting on the sidelines.

Known this for a couple of weeks, and it's been obvious the way he has played.

He should go and get it done immediately. We are already at the stage where it will be very hard to win. Get it done now and be back in 6-8 weeks. We might not win another game between now and then, but what can you do. It's tragic for our season, but look on the bright side. Gives us a chance to look at future players. 2011 might become a write off, but you can hardly blame the players or the coach.

We would of talked the Top 4 this season. Unfortunetly now that is virtually impossible. Thats the reality of Rugby League though. We can still scrape 7th or 8th and then it's a 4 week comp. That is probably the new reality for us, at best.

Has the club actually said anything to confirm any of this?

Nope. Probably won't announce anything until after the game tomorrow when a decision is made - Going by the media articles.

i definately ain't gunna give up on the tigers with this unbelievable injury toll, IF we get most of our players back by the second half of the season, and in touch of the eight, i still honestly reckon that we will get on a roll and flog all the pretenders. this comp can be won from positions 6,7 or 8 without any doubt.

He might as well have the surgery now. This season is a write off imo. Teams will now have Marshall heavy marked without Farah and Lui and we just dont have the strike power. We will struggle and might be able to jag one win in next 2 months. God help us if Marshall gets found guilty in his court case because the NRL will then ban him for at least 4 weeks. Never seen injury crisis like this and this season had so much hope.

yeah that's a bit of money

So, it looks like we could be struggling for a few weeks, should get a heap of players back in R10 at least, hopefully.

depends on what extra damage could be done over 2 months.

think about the state of origin series.
if you think he should of played for nsw,he would of missed 3 weeks there.
add in the bye and you have halved the amount of missed games to only 4.
i think our 2nd bye might be at the end of the series, haven't checked the dates.

not the end of the world people.
we don't lose alot of players to origin each year, benji only has the test match.

this year it is like we are in origin mode trying to win 50% over a 8 week period.
not impossible if the team concentrates on the fundamentals.

i hope he can go another couple weeks get a couple more wins then get the surgery.

Do you think I'm happy about it? Hell I would much rather be proved wrong, but you guys as usual say it can't be true with your rosey painted glasses on.

What rosy painted glasses? As I mentioned to Hybrid, I simply took Farah at his word last from last Sunday's Footy Show when Fittler asked him - That's all. If Farah said at the time it wasn't a big issue then who am i to doubt him? I don't set out to try and prove people wrong for the sake of it. I asked a question as nothing had been confirmed from Farah or the club on the issue. Now it turns out those of you who said he needed surgery may very well be right. Obviously it's terrible news for the Farah and the Tigers but when players get injured it's hardly worth gloating about and rubbing others noses about being wrong simply because Farah and the club have kept quiet on the issue until now.

Willow, what do u expect him to say?

'yeah my groins shot and I need surgery but I'm trying to wait until after origin'

Did you believe Darren Lockyer when he said he supported ivan henjak and had nothing to do with his sacking?

I have tendonitis in the achilles. You dont "do it". Rather it is simply wear and tear of the tendon over a long period of time. Also, some days it is fine, other days it is quite painful. It is worse after a match. The first two days of recovery from a match can be very uncomfortable. Because the pain varies, it can be difficult to judge how serious it and I imagine that is why Farah and the club thought he might get through the season.

Worst case scenario is it can lead to the tendon snapping. I imagine, obviously without knowing, that this not as big a risk with the groin as the achilles.

Honestly fellas, who really cares who is right? The bottom line is our injury toll is set to get even bigger this week before we even kick off tomorrow, and it's another chief playmaker.

If we do manage to make the top 4 this year, it will be a testament to our reggies and NYC development.

Hope Ndaira is ready to step up until Fults is fit.

i dont mind if we drop a few games but if the young fellas can stand up and just keep us sniffing around the bottom of the 8 ill be happy, we can win alot of our last games and still play finals footy.
