Favourite leichhardt Oval moment

The big win over Souths in 05 in the middle of that 8 game streak. Massive crowd and that whole day just gave a feeling that bigger things were building. Also that day after the gf in 05 when the players arrived in front of the big crowd.

Every moment has been special, but the Watts/Farah biff holds dearer than most, if not for the fact that genuine one-on-one dust-ups are a thing of the past and it doesn't allow for true parochialism to fester between certain sides.

I don't really have a favorite moment at Leichhardt Oval but my most memorable would be walking through the gates for the first time in 2009 as a 12 year old with my Dad and Sister when we beat the Storm. LO is my favourite ground to watch Footy at. Yeah it's cliche but win, lose or draw I will always treasure my memories at LO. I am now 14 and hoping for many more memories!!! Can't wait for more epic moments at LO in 2012!

Attended a game with my dad and my little brother probably about twenty odd years ago and there was a rival supporter (female) who was standing up in front of about 10 people moving around talking crap (because we were getting beat!). Everyone was yelling at her to sit down and all she did was turn around and laugh? My old man who doesn't say boo was getting pretty pissed my little brother who would have been about 8 or 9 says "I can make her sit down" the old man says "how?"

He picks up an orange chucks it and CHOCK! Square in the back of the head!

She sits down for the rest of the game everyone is laughing at her and the best part is we won!

I guess my early memories are about images, not events. Some examples are Laurie Nichols air punching in his singlet, the smell of dencorub and the sound of studs on concrete, the friendly faces in our "special" spot (sitting in front of the Keith Barnes stand), Frank Hyde sitting at his picnic table to call the games, players milling about in front of the change rooms.
Lately, the 2005 Friday night game against the Eagles (when I thought that maybe we had a chance to win the season - and Brett Stewart getting a royal ribbing), Robbie v Watts with Tiger player support, the close encounters this year, the disastrous end of season games against the Rabbitohs that defeated our finals hopes (esp when Robbie was badly needled), Lote coming back…then going off; Chris. L's injury
Some things that never leave me though are the Sunday afternoon games, getting half a sun tan, big crowds, feeling great...
BRING ON LEICHHARDT 2012

As a magpie there wasn't a lot of highlights prior to 2000 although my school winning the Commonwealth Bank cup in my HSC year (1986) was pretty special.

Favourites Wests Tigers moment was 2005 against Souths. Incredible atmosphere while tearing the bunnies a new one. Doesn't get much better than that.

The 85 mid week cup win against the sharks was awesome!

The crowd chanted tigers for an age and about half of the same crowd did a lap of honour with the players!!

Atmosphere of the radar Leichhardt style!!!

Special mentions also for the tigers second half spanking of combined brisbane where we scored four tries in seven minutes includin a hundred metre one off the kick off!!

Recently i remember Buckets intercepting against parra and running 20 metres to score, bunjis long range try after a big Farah break and who could forget the crowd going bananas when Chris Lawrence ran 90 metres and outpaced Mr Slater!!!!

Magpies beating the Roosters 6-5 in '77 Amco Cup Final….we sat in the termite stand

That was a special night. I was on the hill in the north eastern corner. As everyone was standing, I couldn't see Easts conversion attempt (Fairfax or Schubert?) that would have one them the game. A huge roar went up, I'd thought we'd lost until I realised it was the Wests fans that were chearing.

Also loved the Balmain v Parra game when the woman ran on the field and gave it to the referee, Greg Hartley. Only saw that one on TV. Wonder if she is still around and still supporting the Tigers. Anyone know who she is?

Having my wedding photo's taken on the ground and slotting a goal straight over the black dot in my suit!
or;

-Scott Gales chip chase, chip chase TRY!
-Beating Manly 49-18 in 2005
-**Beating Parra in the pouring rain before we became the Sydney Tigers and moved to Parra Stadium**

Are you sure you are not talking about Balmains last ever game in teh pouring rain against Parra? That was a few years later and was the last before we became WESTS Tigers. Thats my favourite memory

On field (Wests Tigers): The comeback the night that Danny Williams king hit Buckets

On field (Balmain): tie between the last game of 1999 and BRET's GF Qualification in Golden Point

Off Field: I saw a drunk man fall into the trough in the Dog Morrison stands. Classic

The point in his career where he came of age and the higher ups in the NRL finally started taking notice - THAT GAME.

I watched that game on Foxtel that night, and remember riding Chris Lawrence home on the lounge screaming my lungs out much to my wife's disgust….

As much as the commentary on fox can be diabolical I do remember the line "FOR Chris Lawrence... FOR THE WIN! LAWRENCE VS SLATER!! LAWRENCE!! HE will run to VICTORY!!!"

This is a great thread! Most of my favs already mentioned.

Junior's last game has to be #1\. I was 10 at the time and the crowd's reaction had me close to tears. I couldn't get close enough to throw the streamers they'd handed out; I still have them in my memorabilia, faded as they are.

Second would be the final Balmain game in 1999\. Sitting through that ridiculous torrential rain and watching the Tigers surge to victory against Parra. Couple of good ones against Parra actually - e.g. 2002 Rd 2 win after they'd made the GF or the year Schifcofske missed a wide conversion to draw.

The Chris Lawrence try vs Storm was probably the single best example of setting the Leichhardt crowd on fire. If you watch the highlight on youtube, the entire crowd leaps to its feet as he bursts through, then goes totally spare when he beats a diving Billy Slater. Wonderful.

One of my personal favourites was 1996, when Ellery Hanley ran half the field to score on his comeback to Balmain. We were such a crap side and he had ancient legs, felt like minutes for him to finally cross the line. I was in the stands that day (99% of the time on the hill) and the crowd went beserk. I have a sneaky it was against Cronulla but I can't be certain.

There are also a few ignoble though no less dramatic mentions - Danny Williams king-hitting Buckets O'Neill from behind (16 week ban), Slater stomping on Skandalis' head in the PTB (4 week ban), Terry Hill pile driving David Vaealiki half way to China, that bloody Blacklock last-minute chip and regather, Michael Buettner toeing a chip ahead by drilling it into the Keith Barnes stand.

In 96 we played at Parramatta Stadium.

The match you are thinking about was round one 97 when Balmain returned to Leichhardt - the game was aganist Manly and it ended in a draw (the game is on YouTube btw).

21/4/1979, Saturday afternoon game v the Dragons and the phantom biter Rod Reddy or was it Robert Stone …Balmain won 27-20 in a great game. I was sitting on steps behind the goal posts as my brother thought it was cool to sit there back then. Wayne Wigham got MOM from memory and then was on some sports greyhound show channel 10 used to have on a saturday night. Tigers lost last 3 games by a few points that year and missed the 5 while the Dragons won the comp.

Another memorable moment was in 1982, when Garry jack scored from a Bulldogs dropout in the corner to seal a 6 nil (2 tries to nil) victory. I was up in the new grandstand (free entry back then) in the same corner where the try was scored...

It was fairfax that missed that kick Praten as i was also there. i was about 9 years old and a magpie tragic since birth as the old man used to take me to the footy from about 2 years old and on. the roosters scored fairly close to the posts and all i remember was closing mu eyes when he moved in for the kick only to open them with magpie fans going nuts. Yep 1977 Amco cup the only thing the magpies won in my lifetime.

Round 13 in 1991 would have to be my favourite moment.

Balmain beat Manly 24-8, but the real highlight was the stink between Ian Roberts and Garry Jack. What a day!

I had always thought that happened at Brookvale?

Are you sure it was 6 nil Hubert? I remember that game vividly. I was there with my uncle who used to play for Canterbury (and used to give me a lot of grief) I remember he was FILTHY because either the game before, or the game before that Canterbury had had the very first (and last?) nil all draw (I think against Newtown?). He was filthy that it looked like it was going to happen again and my memory was that the game was destined for nil all until Garry Jack took that drop out on about half way and scored that try.

Not saying you are wrong, but my memory is more lyrical & romantic
