Favourite song/song artist/music genre

any song with a deent guitar solo in it- Tears in Heaven, Hotel California, Enter Sandman, Mary had a little lamb, Pride and Joy, Sweet Child of Mine, Sultans of Swing, Nothing Else Matters, etc etc

Good thread lots of interesting and diverse tastes.

For me growing up it was RATM, RHCP, nirvana and primus.

Got into jazz (Miles, Coltrane and Mingus mostly through to some early fusion). Old Arabic music, parliament/bootsy Collins solo stuff, most recently the artist I've really gotten into is Cat Stevens. There are lots of other genres I've listened to or songs I've learnt for gigs (I play bass) that have stuck with me but too many to list.

I've got an original UK Straight label pressing of Trout Mask Replica. Its a bit special 🙂

I'll be checking out some you mentioned.
Cheers

Trout Mask Replica is difficult listening. I only put it on when I'm in the right frame of mind. Safe as Milk on the other hand is an all time favourite of mine, as is Shiny Beast, Bat Chain Puller. The only album of his I'm not really fond of is Unconditionally Guaranteed. Anyway enjoy, lots of goodies in there.

Sounds similar to the progression I made, I still crank RATM occasionally, love that stuff.
I pretty much started with cock rock, Motley Crue etc, then went through the NWA, Public Enemy stuff, to Metal, to Punk, to Grunge to Alternative rock, to Stoner, Space,Psych,Shoegaze, free jazz, Avant garde, tripped out holyshittballs!!!!

I dig Miles electric fusion stuff Live/Evil, Agharta.

It's difficult alright but like you said when you're in the right mood its fantastic.

As for Parliament/Funkadelic Bootsy ect I saw George Clinton a couple of years back in little old Caloundra at the music festival, best show I've ever seen, mind blowing still can't believe he played in my hometown and I saw them. He pretty much had half the crowd on stage for the last few songs just getting down, it was nuts!!!

I'm in the weirder the better camp when it comes to music, I enjoy a challenging listen.
There's an interesting YouTube video on TMR and why it's so genius, can't remember what it's called but I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to find, check it out.

I nearly scored myself a copy of Strictly Personal on Saturday at a record fair but it had a nasty scratch

Got a Mono press of Safe as Milk too
Love Beefheart, I'm slowly ticking off the albums I want.
Good to know there's fellow music freaks on here that enjoy good music.
We're Tigers fans, we obviously have good taste. 😉

Are you aware that George Clinton/Parliament Funkadelic are playing at the Byron Bay Blues Fest on April 21 and 22? I wont get there but I reckon it will go off.
If you can get into Trout Mask Replica, have you listened to Ornette Coleman? Some of his stuff leaves me lost.
One Beefheart album I'm still after is Spotlight Kid. Click Clack from that album is a great bit of loose jointed blues.
If you're into piano at all, Klavierstuke by Chris Opperman is fantastic (In my book). I play it end to end on loud.

Forgot all about public enemy good reminder. I got into immortal technique a few years later… very heavy stuff if you are looking for a slightly updated version of PE

Favourite artists Oasis, Incubus, John Mayer, The Stokes, Rage Against The Machine, DMA's, Sticky Fingers, Kings of Leon.

Actually play in a band myself, I'm the dying cat on the microphone if anyone's interested. www.linktr.ee/beckbakerband

Ramones, Velvet Underground - pretty much any group Danny Fields was involved with!

Early Ramones up until Tommy left is just perfection for me. Velvets overall I rate as the most complete group.

Nice. A little bit Go-Betweens/modern indie. I put in on my car mix.

TOOL
Daylight to second which in my list includes about 100 bands which i spend time with yearly.

Glad to see some Staley fans on here…my top frontman.
Btw RIP to Keith. The Prodigy were groundbreaking and he was awesome live.

No I wasn't aware of the Blues fest gig, that would be great. I actually thought George was done touring for good.

Tool are great. Their new album should be out in the next few months.

Love Vicarious, such a killer opening track and poignant words about the zeitgeist and the media's hard on for broadcasting the most graphic content they can to appease the viewers voyeurism.
