Is there nothing Andrew Fifita can't do after the giant prop showed the skills of a halfback and the pace of an outside back to keep Cronulla's top four hopes alive with a match winning try in the dying seconds against St George Illawarra.

With the Sharks in danger of missing the play-offs after a mistake ridden performance at WIN Stadium, Fifita toed ahead a Todd Carney kick that rebounded off rookie Dragons winger Charly Runciman and beat Jason Nightingale to the ball with less than a minute remaining.

IN his remarkable breakout season, Andrew Fifita beat Dragons fullback Jason Nightingale in a photo finish to become the hero of a thrilling southern derby.

MATCH CENTRE: DRAGONS v SHARKS

Fifita showed his pace to chase a kick and touch down in the final minute to pinch a game the Sharks needed in the quest for a high finals finish.

"I just kicked it and hoped for the best,'' Fifita said of his late try.

"I saw (Jason) Nightingale, I thought I was going to get burned, but I never gave up and got there in the end.''

For coach Shane Flanagan, the win was retribution, but didn't mask his side's deficiencies.

Lol always remember Sharks are just making up the numbers they will get smashed next week the way they played yesterday by Roosters.

What about Fifita, thats something to laugh about isn't it

Not really, but at the end of the day it is what it is.

At the time I wasn't all that miffed about him being let go as he had a poor attitude, but under the right instruction he has blossomed and our loss is the Sharks gain.

I hope he continues to realise his potential and achieve in the game, no matter what jersey he is wearing.

Hmm Fifita was poor in that game, so many errors. The Ryan try shouldn't have been given too, Lewis whilst attacking the head of Nightingale knocked the ball on with his elbow, how the video ref missed that i don't know….

Does anyone know if Gibbs was injured in the game?

26mins, 5 runs for 49m and only 7 tackles.

I don't remember seeing Gibbs past the 30min mark of the game, and it would be strange to not have used him for a second half stint unless he was injured.

oh boohoo cry me a river. what's the point in crying about the guy we let go 2 years ago. get over it.

Fair enough. But I'd rather be in their position than fighting off the spoon!

Thought Ryan's was alright - I couldn't see anything wrong, but Fifitas shouldn't have been allowed - they barely looked at the replay before calling it…
