Wayne Bennett coached side won the open finals match in both finals series.
The premiers had to go the long way round to make the gf.
The minor premiers were knocked out in the preliminary.
Both series premiers had to knock of the Melbourne Storm in the preliminary.
Both finalists from the first game faced off again in the Grand Final.
In addition; a lot of talk was of how South Sydney improved their defence since the mid season thrashing by both Penrith and Melbourne.
Getting their opposition points down to 14 ppg was a huge advantage for them going into the GF and a great confidence boost for their defence.
The other argument however was that Penrith averaged 12 ppg conceded for the entire season..
