City Origin Coach Brad Fittler is confident young Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods can handle the step up to representative level.
Woods, 21, was chosen for his first senior representative jersey after impressing Fittler and the City selectors with his strong form this season.
Fittler admitted he kept a close eye on Woods following a conversation with experienced Wests Tigers Football Operations Manager and Australian trainer Bryan Hider.
“I remember coming out to Wests Tigers training in the pre-season and speaking to Bryan about which player was the stand out,’’ Fittler said.
“He told me Aaron Woods and how this young kid wanted to go to another level.
“For a rep coach, it is always nice to hear that. He has worked for something and now he has been given a little sniff of a reward.
“When Wests Tigers were under the pump with Keith Galloway out injured, I thought Aaron really stood up in nearly every game.
“Aaron was great on Sunday against Penrith. He just ran over the top of them and that is exactly what we (City selectors) wanted to see.”
Fittler said the environment of a representative camp would also be a good challenge for Woods.
“City Origin week is normally a lot more relaxing than preparing for your club side,’’ Fittler said.
“It takes you out of your comfort zone and you have got to meet new people, you have to apply your personality to the team and that’s really important in the short week you have.
“Aaron seems like a pretty good bloke and we need to bring the best out of him. A lot of that will come down to what he does during the week and how he reacts to what we do.
“I want to make sure that Aaron walks off the field satisfied with his week.”
