i remember telling my dad 2 years ago about Woods , while watching the 20's . that this kid is gonna be something special he reminds me so much of Lazarus the way he runs the ball and is buildind a great offload to his game. My old man agreed with me today saying what a prospect we have.

Handled it with ease today and was the best prop on the field. I'd have him on the bench with Gallen and Tamou starting. I'd also be inclined to have Galloway on the bench with Aaron provided Keith's foot heals enough to give him a few games before round 1.

Steady on Willow. If we lost those two for three matches (and potentially Farah as well) our season would be toast.

Would it?
Do you think the players themselves would share that view? :brick:

It was a light hearted comment.

Woods was definitely the best prop out there today, yet all the media talk surrounding potential Origin props was about Simms - because he scored 2 tries. I'd put them both in, along with Tamou, Gallen, Galloway and Mannah. We need some big, strong, fresh blood up front - out with Weyman, Merrin, King, Snowden and TLL (maybe).

Woods is a great chance imo

Freddy's other comment was a joke He thinks Hayne will be the Australian five eight

And I thought I'd heard Thurston laugh hard before

You blokes just love feeding us Qlders ammunition to destroy you year after year

Mitchell Pearce, Robbie Farah, Aaron Woods lead way in City's Origin trial win over Country

ASK Mitchell Pearce if the NSW No. 7 jersey is his and he laughs.

"Oh, I don't know mate," the City playmaker says. "I hear a different thing every week.

"Every year there's a debate … but I was happy with my game today and that's all that matters at this point I suppose."

While he may not sound sure about his representative future, Pearce confirmed his status as the favourite for the Blues halfback position with a dominant display as City upset Country 24-22 at Glen Willow Sports Complex, Mudgee today.

The 23-year-old had a hand in all four City tries in the first half - including a perfectly executed grubber for winger Steve Turner - in a game where both he and Country five-eighth Todd Carney won their respective battes for inclusion in the NSW Origin side.

City coach Brad Fittler was adamant Pearce had done enough to retain his place with the Blues while Carney - whose side trailed 24-nil shortly before half-time - said the playmaker "threw some dirt in his critics faces today".

"We gave Pearcey that much ball and he showed us what he can do with it," Carney said. Asked about his own chances, the Cronulla five-eighth said: "Hopefully I've done enough. Obviously it's not for me to judge, that's up to Ricky (NSW origin coach Ricky Stuart) and the selectors but hopefully I put my best foot forward.

"As a team, I thought we really dug deep in the second half, really showed some pride in the Country jersey, but just got caught short. We made too many errors."

**Fittler said Pearce had done enough to retain the Blues halfback spot and also praised the efforts of hooker Robbie Farah and prop Aaron Woods - who he said was the best bookend on the field.**

"Everything that was asked of (Pearce) leading into this game, he answered," Fittler said. "He had a couple of kicks in the first half, in the second half he got us four or five restarts, had a couple of nice clearing kicks, took some pressure off. He had some nice runs, his passing was slick ... you couldn't ask for much more."

Asked about his side's upset win, the NSW Origin legend said: "At half-time we asked the boys to go out there and win the game and they did that. I thought it was a real mature win. Between Robbie and Mitchell they were fantastic. Those two guys, you rely on them to win the game. To expose the opposition's weaknesses.

"There was a real momentum shift in the second half, massive.

"But we didn't get a penalty until the last 10 minutes."

Sure is heading in the right direction. If he keeps going he looks a future Origin & Australian rep. Great to see him standing in tackles and looking to offload. Would like to see him have a good year for WT before further rep honors, though.

Woods and Sims leave mark on NSW radar
Michael Chammas
April 23, 2012

TARIQ SIMS and Aaron Woods, the stars of generation next for NSW rugby league, yesterday put their hands up and demanded selection for State of Origin I.

North Queensland's Sims has been on Blues coach Ricky Stuart's radar since being called into camp last year, and he did his chances of going one better this year no harm, bagging a double for Country in a losing side. But it was Wests Tigers young gun Woods who really stood up and said ''pick me''.

Sims's assignment of bursting into the Origin arena is a difficult one, considering the depth of quality back-rowers at Stuart's disposal, but there is a shortage of props in the ranks, only boosting Woods's chances of winning a shock call-up to the Blues team for the series opener.

''I thought he was the best prop on the field,'' City coach Brad Fittler said. ''That's why this game serves a great purpose because we all go back and watch how Aaron Woods plays for the Tigers now. I'm sure he'll build from this, and whether it's this year or next year, he looks like someone who can make the step up.''

Country coach Laurie Daley gave Sims a similar rap. ''He was fantastic,'' he said of his barnstorming back-rower. ''One of those guys that doesn't want to come off and could probably play 80 minutes. But I was very mindful that he hasn't played a lot of footy and I certainly didn't want to burn him out and have him out there, then all of a sudden fatigue can make you make a poor decision, whether that's with the ball or without. He's a guy that will be on the radar for a while.''

Sims, who was part of the Emerging Blues squad at the start of the year, has spent most of his career with the Cowboys coming off the bench, where he played yesterday.

If picked for NSW, he will more than likely fill that role, one he feels comfortable with.

''I get paid to play the game I love,'' he said. ''If I get a chance to start or come off the bench, I'm going to be doing it at 100 miles an hour. That's what people and that's what Ricky can expect if he chooses me. That's my job and that's what I've got to do.''

Country skipper Greg Bird was convinced after watching Sims yesterday that he was capable of making the jump to league's toughest game. ''I thought he was awesome,'' he said. ''He's been great up at North Queensland for a couple of seasons now. He's definitely made that transition into rep football … The young fellows coming through for NSW are strong and it's only going to be good for NSW in the future.''

Could someone post farahs and woods stats, interested in seeing how they went in that department, cheers

For the City v Country game?

Would not be out of place on the bench.

Best prop on the filed yesterday.

Like to idea of him picked as 18th man for the experience.

Will play plenty of games for NSW and Australia.

Hope we sign him up long term.

According to the NRL…

Aaron Woods - 117m (16 hit ups) 38 tackles (0 missed) 2 offloads 3 tackle breaks
Robbie Farah - 76m run (11 dummy half runs), 45 tackles (1 missed) 9 kicks for 309m 2 tackle breaks

Can't really see them picking woods this year but sims better be off the bench, compete animal and he's huuuuge. When's his contract up? Haha
