Wests Tigers are considering hiring a specialist halves' coach to mentor talented youngsters, with Brad Fittler likely to be at the top of their wish list.
>
The Tigers are reviewing their coaching structure for next season and will be looking to bolster their staff when they part ways with assistants Royce Simmons, Steve Georgallis and rehabilitation manager Andrew Leeds.
>
A priority is to ensure outstanding young playmakers Luke Brooks, Mitchell Moses and Curtis Sironen have someone for guidance as they establish themselves in the NRL.
>
Sironen has already stamped himself as a player of great promise and was one of the teenagers to earn selection in NSW coach Laurie Daley's Blues Origin Pathways camp last November. Whether he plays next season in the halves or the back row could depend on the emergence of Brooks and Moses, who are yet to taste first grade.

With Benji Marshall heading to the Auckland Blues next year, Tigers officials are looking for an experienced figure to provide tuition to the trio, all graduates of Holy Cross College Ryde.
>
''It's something we're looking at,'' Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer confirmed. ''Blocker [former Tigers and Australian forward Steve Roach] has done some work with us this year, from a forwards' point of view, and he may do a bit more next year. One of the things we're looking at is getting a halves' coach as well.
>
''We haven't spoken to anyone yet, but it is one of the models we're looking at for next year,'' he said.
>
The Tigers already use Damien Hill as a part-time kicking coach, but some at the club want Fittler to come on board.
>
The former NSW and Australian captain was one of the game's greatest pivots and has coached the Roosters for more than two seasons at first-grade level.
>
The Tigers could also consider Penrith assistant coach Trent Barrett or another former Blues pivot, Matthew Johns. League immortal Andrew Johns has coached halves at several clubs but his contract with Manly precludes working with rival teams.
>
Meanwhile, Parramatta have bolstered their squad for next season by signing South Sydney utility back Justin Hunt on a three-year deal. Hunt has played 13 games for the Rabbitohs.
>
Souths released him from the final year of his contract to relieve salary cap pressure after extending and upgrading the Burgess brothers' deals.
>
''He has served a superb apprenticeship behind some great outside backs like Greg Inglis and Nathan Merritt at Souths, but now he is at a point in his career where he wants to take his game to a new level,'' Eels coach Ricky Stuart said.

Is Fittler the right choice or right fit for Brooks and Moses He played a different style from Brooks and Moses

Wouldn't mind a different opinion , but think one of the Johns boys would be a better fit in my opinion

Maybe Moses, but I think Freddy would be in a great position to add to Brooks' game and especially Sirro given Freddy spent a bit of time at lock/centre before settling in permanently at No6.

Personally I'd like to see Freddy as the assistant coach. Says some "out there" things but definitely has a great football brain. I think he would be a good mix with Potter. Potter is a serious dude and a strong head coach whereas I think Fittler would help bring a positive new culture to the club.

I also think Brett Kimmorley would be a great Assistant or halves coach.

Tigertye, I was thinking of Noddy the other day as a bloke who could help steer our young halves around. He is a fairly no-nonsense guy who knows his stuff and can articulate it. Freddy is not a bad option either but my vote would be with Brett.

only thing i worry about with fittler is he seems to be a bit too much of a joker?

okay, putting this out there, but i think braith anasta could be a good halves coach. okay, rubbish playing this season, but in the past he has done well and i think he is a good communicator. could also be a good way to get him to retire from playing! ; )

Freddy might also be able to attract some decent players as well as help our halves.

Freddy is not what we need he is immature and will most likely not instil the discipline our young halves need to be successful!

A halves coach isn't a guy you hire to instil discipline. Its a part time role, not a fulltime assistant position.

And if its about commitment, toughness or work ethic on the field…..I'd back Freddy any day of the week.

If the rumours about Anasta being a media mole are true I wouldn't let him drive the team coach, let alone get anywhere near the playing group. And, quite frankly, even if the rumours are false I want that guy gone from the club as soon as possible so I can get on with the important job of forgetting he was ever there in the first place.

Love freddy. I find it good he is a joker/funny guy, bring some life into the club and maybe make it enjoyable for the halves. He would benefit siro and Austin most.

He has also killed it in any team he has played in, also in numerous positions. Would be a great asset.

We need a halves coach. Please WT.

People seem to have positive things to say about Fittler from City Origin.

Could be an interesting choice

I think Fittler would be worth a shot for sure. Kimmorley would also be ok IMO.
