I could have written that article from my lounge room too innsaneik. Its the same generic comments being bandied around about Wests Tigers that have been hearing for months. They keep going on about this roster and the three names we only hear are Brooks Moses and Tedesco ,

Yes, but you inferred he was wrong, we shouldnt listen to what hes saying.
Whats incorrect>?

Depth - I have seen just as good depth in the Broncos ,Warriors, Penrith and Newcastle and there is probably more in other clubs yet I keep hearing about ours as being the "best young roster" coming through. There is nothing in this article to suggest that this guy has actually asked any questions or investigated anything - like I said I could have written it based on what I have read, and I don't have any links to the club, spoken to no one. Its a collection of opinion pieces thrown together to fill a space. So I don't give him credit for knowing any more than me- so I am not listening - but others may its up to them.

your are dead set right, other than Nofo there is no other real talent that will make 1st grade in the next 2-3 years. And ther is no great stand out talent in the forwards.

I don't like making predictions about young players, but I have feeling Lodge could turn out real well.

I don't want to be the black hatter but take an honest assessment of our last couple of seasons.

Out of our roster who would the top sides take?

Tedesco - Y
Nofo - N
Lawrence - N
Simona - N
Richards - N
Moses - Y
Brooks - Y
Blair - N
Sue - N
Sironen - N
Woods - Y
Farah - Y
Galloway - N
Tapau - N
Gavet - N
Lodge - Y
Austin - N

That's only 6 players out of our squad that the top sides would probably pick at good coin. There would be others but only on the cheap.

Our squad needs strengthening before we can hope to be a consistently good team. JT is not a miracle worker.

Good point but we don't have people like Uncle Nick or Mr. Crowe backing us. If we did it might be a different story.

I'd argue that Nofo, Simona, Austin & Tapau would also be Y's. In saying that though I don't think our best team compares poorly with the top teams. Our problem is keeping everyone fit & on the field.

Agree "cqtiger" It will take time. We are a work of art in the making!

@Tigermama,your right but also the whole internals of the club need to be worked on and then when everything is right we will be absolutely awesome on and off the field…

so unless south sydney or the roosters want more than half our squad we wont be competitive with the top 4 teams?

I'll do the same for us (12th place) with South Sydney, the premiers

GI - Y
Johnston - Y
Walker - Y
Auva'a - N
Lote - N
Keary - N
Reynolds - Y
G Burgess - Y
I. Luke/Koroisau - N
Tyrrel - N
Te'o - N
Sutton - Y
S Burgess - Y
Jason Clark - N
Kyle Turner - N
Chris McQueen - N
Tom Burgess - Y

only 8/17, what a horrible team.

I'd also argue that we DO have one of the most promising young squads in the NRL. Whether that potential is realised remains to be seen.

Teddy, Nofo, Simona, Brooks, Moses, Seve, Woods, Lodge, Sironen, Lovett, Brown, Santi and Cherrington.

Most of these players have the potential to play SOO/International footy. Its almost guaranteed that not all will, but thats still a lot of good or great young players. Some like Brooks, Moses, Woodsy and Tedesco are already clearly a cut above the rest. And others still have to prove themselves, but i think at least half of the others will do so to become good players at the club, given the right environment.

For the past couple of years everyone has been talking about the young talent that we have at our disposal and the glory days are not far away.
Its funny because if you go onto the Penrith web site or the Newcastle website they are saying the same thing. In fact I would say their are about six clubs in the same boat as us. So yes it helps to have some real quality kids, but so do a lot of other teams, so the trick is turning these kids into quality Fgrades.

Look at Souths, their build up to winning the Grand Final has been a long and slow road even with some real quality players. It did not happen in a couple of years. Fingers crossed we are now headed in the right direction, but I dont think we will be up with the big teams for at least three years.

pHyR3, your comparison between the WT and Bunnies rosters points to fact that the real difference between us and a premiership winning team isn't the players. Strength and conditioning? Facilities? If we could keep the players on the paddock things would be different.

There is not a single side in the comp who have players in their 17 that would all be walk up starts at other clubs. You need those sorts of players to play a role for the side, without being absolute super-stars. Melbourne during their glory years is a case in point, half a team of champion players, and the other half made up of fringe players and journeymen who were good at playing a particular role for the benefit of the team. Comes down to how much the coach can get out of them.

I would also add Adam Blair to your team of Yes's. Based on this year's form, he would be a walk up start at pretty much any club in the comp (granted for less than what we are paying him though).

Nofoaluma would be better than 3 of the GF wingers and the equal of Johnston. Watch Nofo take the dirty hit up after a kick return, always makes metres. He'd walk into most sides

Player and coach respect for each other
Team to want to play and win for the club and each other
Fitness and rehab
Player position and stability
Believe in yourself

Good read but as many know Its just not that simple,

A few games with no injuries can see average teams like Penrith and the Dogs and even our tigers early in 2014 go further than they should have.
