I think the main issue that is being missed is that in the last few years, the show has been League orientated with most of the silly stuff right at the end of the show. There is a lot of footy talk on the show now.
The problem is what is said in the footy talk and also the types of guests on the show. They talk to the same current players every few weeks and it becomes very cliched hearing the same players say the same thing over and over. How often was Billy Slater, Darren Lockyer, Jonathan Thurston and Sam Thaiday on the show last year? Not only that, but because the same players come on the show over and over, there are no hard hitting questions and the panel always seems to support the players who appear on the show because they become very matey.
This is where they need to bring in someone like a journalist from outside the show who is not afraid to ask the hard hitting questions which is what makes for compelling viewing.
Ironically, this is what Matt Johns wanted when he wanted to re invent the show, a more journalistic view ala Controversy Corner.
