Foran to renege on Parra

Is now,,,would be a walk up start at any Club,,,developed by Wests Tigers

If that's the case, Fifita was developed by the Sharks.

Correct

I can't agree with that, the way he was nurtured through the junior grades. We struck gold with Taupau, as well with Austin. Taupau was just looking for an opportunity and when he got it he made the most of it. What he has was obviously always in him, he just needed the chance.

I'm enjoying the to and fro between you two! but have to say as far as taupau goes I don't think you could say he was developed by the tigers. Agree they got him and - like Austin - he excelled in his new environment. A lot of posters decry letting Fifita go, but to my memory he was nowhere near the player he's become when at the tigers: immature, arrogant and needed to go. I don't even miss him. These things happen.

Personally, I hope that Foran goes to the Eels. Sticks to his contract, and plays well for them.
Bottom line is that we all know that playing rugby league in the NRL is a business, and you have to look after your own best interests, because no one else will.

You kinda feel bad for Foran, enters the deal in good faith then has all the terms changed on him, so he rethinks his decision and gets hammered for it. Good on him for not letting a club stuff him around like that.

Personally I think we will see him playing for the Roosters next year. They've lost RTS and Maloney which frees up cap space, he's good mates with Pearce who would be his halves partner, and they are always good for a marquee signing.

And for all their faults, at least they can attract marquee players. More than can be said for us.

Yep…I would prefer to build our own,,,Woods Farah Taupau Tedesco

Taupau is one of our own? Thought we signed him from another club

Wow you're right so we can attract players from other clubs

An unwanted reserve grader at the time.

Parra can sign marquee players, we cant.

Look at him now,,,Isn't that better recruitment than paying massive overs for players…

But they are willing to sell the farm to get them! Hardly sustainable in the long term….

For every Taupau we sign who turns to gold, we'll sign 3 John Grant's who amount to nothing. Getting lucky with 1 player shouldn't justify signing mediocre players at the chance they turn out to be revelations.

Our last marquee signing was Blair, who turned out to be a massive bust. It is possible that turned the club off marquee signings, considering we have a good crop of juniors coming through. We need to look at the Panthers model, trust your youth players then go to the player market to plug the holes.

IMHO, most of our 'marquee' signings were bad/awful: Anasta, Blair, Pettybourne, Tuqiri, Morris, Moody, Settler, O'Harra, Graham, Hill, Hapoate etc. :frowning:
Ellis and Payton are the only exceptions (Prince, Hodgson, Richards,Utai,Taupau were all not wanted).
We had more success with 'nobodies' e.g Tuiaki, Laffrenchi, Heighington, Ryan etc.

Pettybourne wasn't a marquee signing, Blair was a good signing at the time but he clearly didn't end up fitting the mould. Tuqiri was a good signing but was just unlucky with the freak injury.. He did a good job as winger and brought a lot of attention to the club. His presence surely added to sponsorship dollars. He was also instrumental in gaining and retaining some Islander players…

Tuqiri cops a horrible wrap on here sometimes.
I think he was very good for us. We probably should have held on to him for last year as well.

Tuqiri was the best winger in the comp in his first yr with us. Was not a dud bye by any stretch

Beat me to it. Tuqiri's signing was marred by injuries.

We forget our recruitment has been good enough to obtain players such as Taupau and Austin. Both came to us in contract so I am not worried we haven't recruited players at this stage. We also have any number of young players waiting their turn to step up into the NRL team through good recruitment.

No doubt Foran is a good player but he reminds me of an old style small lock forward in the way he plays. Does anyone remember Souths player Rocky Laurie? I'd much rather Moses and once he matures he will be a fine player.

Hoppa Jr on a stupidly massive deal and they had to wait 2 years before he could join the club, Sandlol, Watmough, Scott.

Peats wasn't a star (and still isn't). Norman hasn't been huge. And now Foran on a botched deal?

Throw in Chris Walker, Whaturia, Carl Webb and Willy Tonga all while losing Hayne.

Praising Eels ability to sign marquee players is a bit much.
