cheers very stressful time for all mine workers and families the boom is well and truly over, my mrs asked how was my job lookin and i told her honestly id have to be the best looking deputy up there but with 9 out of 23 to go id say I'm scratching to make the cut

Mate the mines are the only thing keeping Australia from being another Spain,Greece or Italy. With the industry starting to flatten out the roll on effect is going to be massive. Iam in the aviation game and the fly in fly out people are the only thing keeping us out of trouble. The big worry is where do all these retrenched workers get work????Only hope China's demand picks up but with Europe and the States being in a mess its highly unlikely.

I am a coalminer too,have been for the past 22 years,but we are local suppliers to power stations,so while we didn't enjoy the boom so much as the exporters,we are not doing it as tough as some now,all the best I know how fickle and ruthless the mining companies are,especially Xstrata and BHP

They sure are. Especially when they have to pay the carbon tax and the mining tax as well as having commodity prices halving. Bad companies.
