Four Nations: Kangaroos hooker Robbie Farah set for super-su

THE Kangaroos have hatched a plan to turn Tigers captain Robbie Farah into a Kurt Gidley-style super-sub out of dummy-half against England at Wembley tomorrow.

In a ploy designed to increase the speed of the game, Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens will inject Farah into proceedings in the opening half and move vice-captain Cameron Smith to lock.

Stay with us. The tactic has been devised to play an up-tempo brand of football with too many questions for the English defence to answer.

The Kangaroo camp believe they are yet to fully utilise Billy Slater's support play through the middle of the field and with Farah playing direct and fast, this could provide the solution.

Vice-captain Smith will move to lock when Anthony Watmough is interchanged, giving the Kangaroos another ball-player to compliment captain Darren Lockyer and halfback Johnathan Thurston.

The idea is Australia will have so many different focal-points of attack, the English won't be able to cope.

The Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens was coy about the plan last night but did confirm the Australian camp were looking at a variety of alternatives."I could go with Robbie, I could stick with Cooper, certainly if Cooper was fit then there'd be no reason to try and change things because you want to be building some familiarity with combinations and the like," Sheens said.

"If we go with Robbie, he could be like a Kurt Gidley for NSW out of dummy-half where he comes on and really increases the speed of the game and plays direct through the middle of the field.

"That's one option, but like I said I'm looking at a number of different scenarios at the moment."

The Australian camp designed the Farah game plan when regular utility Cooper Cronk suffered a broken nose against New Zealand in the Four Nations opener.

Sheens has named a 19-man squad for tomorrow's Test but The Daily Telegraph has been told Cronk and Brisbane forward Corey Parker will be the two players to drop off the bench.

Sheens has previously tried using Farah off the interchange bench for Australia without success during the Four Nations campaign in 2009, with Newcastle captain Gidley ultimately winning the utility role two years ago.

St George Illawarra utility Beau Scott will make his international debut and has been handed a brief to rattle the Poms with his trademark defence.

Robbie Farrah would be an asset no matter where you put him. He is so versatile.

Yeah, geez I hope he can step up this time. His International games have been nothing to write home about - certainly nowhere near the standard he has produced for WT. So come on Robbie, forget about the stage you're on and play the way we all know you can. Hope he has the game of his life!

The kangaroos could use the entire sharks squad and still beat england. It'll be interesting to see how much extra we thrash them with robbie involved though

What the hell are you talking about? In his last test he came on and sparked a flat attack. Directly set up tries for Lawrence and Boyd.

Dissapointing. But I guess playing two specialist hookers isn't generally the done thing anyway. It'd be nice to see him play but realistically, they'll get by without him.

Shifty Sheens. So much for Cronks broken nose and Shillingtons injury.
