Fox reports Bird signed with Broncos this morning

Apparently for $700k per year, $350k over 3 years more than what Cronulla were offering him.

So let me get this straight. A young, up and coming premiership winning, NSW representing utility offered under $600k to stay at the Sharks, and we offered Moses $1 million per season?

And Teddy is considering taking $300k per year LESS than what we're offering to play with the Chooks?

Are we managed by imbeciles? :bash :crazy :brick: :rant

I heard on tv last night they wanna play him at lock….
Lol i thought he wanted to play #1 or #6

And how the Broncos get away with having an entire team of rep players is ridiculous

We didn't offer Moses 1 mil per season

Maybe, but in any case, he's apparently getting $750k at Parra, so he's valued higher than Jack Bird. Yes, 5/8 is a more important position, but Bird has far more runs on the board than Moses. And we have a history of paying overs.

Kinda getting obvious that maybe it isn't the money after all…. they simply just don't want to play for us... that being the case, see ya.

Well firstly these are reported salaries, you can't bank on them.

Secondly, Sydney is a hotter market than Brisbane, Broncos can typically afford to pay their players a little less because both (a) cost of living in Brisbane is lower, and (b) there aren't as many local options to play first grade. So if you are from Brisbane, or want to live in Brisbane, or don't mind living in Brisbane, there's hardly anyone else to provide that same offer.

Obviously then too the Broncos machine, their facilities and member base etc. etc.

We don't even know anything about TPAs.

What a load.

It is all TPA's and other ways of circumventing salary cap restrictions.

They need a draft so that the maximum amount for a player is raised and the lowest club gets first options at the price. If the club passes on that player and a club up the ladder picks him up for the higher price then it's sweet.

That way there is no chance of playing games with the salary cap.

We should have offered Bird more than $700k. He is at Tedesco's level and definitely a better player than Woods.

How good is it to have a contract sorted out so easily. Broncos only became interested in bird around 3 weeks ago made an offer, sharks countered but wasn't enough. Bird signs. Quick and painless. Now look at tigers 4 muppets and they have dragged this out for 9+ months and it's still going.

Tigers are acting like that high school boy who's girlfriend is playing them and won't dump her. Call their bluff put a deadline on it. There is PLENTY of talent on the open market and as each week passes it becomes less and less. Make a move!

Well in a balanced argument, they still haven't worked out the contracts for Milford, Glenn, Boyd, Blair, Kahu, James Roberts. Broncos are lucky enough to either have lack of potential suitors for these players, the players themselves don't want to leave, or the players are respectful enough to keep their mouths shut in the media. But they have plenty of unsigned key players.

Pretty sure glenn and kahu have resigned and Milford obviously going nowhere.

Phil Rothfield the Sharks number 1 fan has reported that Bird has signed for $1M+ per season. He apparently is happy enough that Sharks didn't try to match that offer as he wants a balanced cap to keep a strong squad of players.

We are offering more for Tedesco and just shy for Woods and they want a strong squad too?

Anyway I don't know if Buzz knows it but only half of Bird's money will be in the cap. Go the mighty Thoroughbreds (rolls eyes)

Maybe we are better off if they all leave. I've never seen such drama regarding signings at the Tigers since I started supporting them which must have been 30 odd years ago.

Just go.
