GAZ'S TOUR UPDATE

This week, Gareth Ellis takes us back a few weeks. We hear about England’s preparations leading into the Four Nations with their match against France. He also talks us through Chris Heighington’s England jersey presentation in the sheds as well as revealing Heighno’s new love!
“We were getting close to the business part of the tour now and we were preparing for a Test match against France. The boys had been training really well and Heighno was particularly excited about the prospect of making his International debut. As expected he was named at lock and was presented with his jersey and old school cap along with a few of the other boys. He looked as proud as punch as he posed for pictures in his new England jersey and cap.
The game itself was a bit mixed but served a purpose in blowing away the cob webs and working in some combinations. We got the win over France and we felt much better for the hit out but still had a lot to improve on.
Along came Wales, another game we were expected to win but nonetheless a big challenge. No doubt Wales would have probably earmarked this game as their “final” and one they could possibly spring an upset.
Fortunately for us we played much better with a really well controlled game sticking to the plan and winning comfortably in the end. Heighno grabbed a try in the closing stages but copped a hammering for the way he puts the ball down. What is the problem with diving and putting the ball down properly?!
Heighno has also turned into a Man United fan since being in the UK.
First he went to watch their arch rivals, Man City, in a European game and could have easily become a blue considering it was his first soccer experience but after the game we went shopping and he decided to switch his allegiances by buying a Man U jersey instead.
Shortly after that, Heighno and a few of the boys managed to get tickets to the Manchester derby. Man United were beaten 6-1 and Heighno was left drowning his sorrows. Despite all of that, he did say that he enjoyed it and hadn't experienced an atmosphere like that ever before.
He did however cop some stick from the lads about the whole thing. Some things never change then no matter what side of the world you’re on!”
