Get Crackin' Mayer!

Grant Mayer should pull his finger out and sign up our rising NRL stars to long term 4 year deals…

I’m talking about Teddy, Nofo, Simona, Sirro ..I know we have an option for Sirro in 2015 and I know Simona is signed until the end of 2015..but extend their contracts to 2017!..

These 4 are now becoming established NRL stars that other CEO’s are looking at very closely.

Mayer should look at it this way; if the WT were in the market for a winger, a centre, a fullback and 2nd rower and Teddy, Simona, Sirro and Nofo were playing for other clubs would he and Potter look at them?...in a flash!! ..and I can assure you he’d be paying overs to entice them to come to a club like the WT.

Well Grant you don’t need to go looking mate, nor do you need to pay overs to entice them to the WT they are already in your backyard - you just need to lock the gate and keep them in...borrow Raelene’s 4 year spreadsheet and GET CRACKIN!...what are you waiting for???????

I'm hoping they stay, not just for the fact that they're our juniors and have all performed exceptionally well in the past 12 months… But it's because they're in positions we've struggled to fill in recent years. Not since Hodgo have we had a settled fullback. Ayshford and Lawrence were once upon a time one of the best centre pairings in the NRL, but have since had a big fall from grace, and our backrow has lacked an x-factor since Ellis left.

We now have good depth in the front row stocks, Farah is on board long term, Potter seems to have a good succession plan in place for the halves, the only pieces missing in the jigsaw are fullback, wing and backrow.

It takes two to tango. Eg. would Simona sign an extension now when he knows if he can string another good season together he'll be in for a huge bump?

Agree on Tedesco and Sironen though. Sironen should be an easy signing right now since he's off the paddock and out of sight out of mind for other clubs.

You are assuming they want to stay. Sometimes it's not purely about money but culture, facilities and the coach.

I believe if they are are not taken advantage of the fact they are local juniors contractually they will want to stay for sure…...

That's the interesting thing. Most have stated they want to stay at the club, but haven't been resigned yet.
Most likely a ploy from managers to bump up their prices. I'm confident they'll stay.

Most of them live locally (except Ted), have grown up together, played juniors together, and all seem to be good mates. However I can empathise with the feeling of wanting to take your career to the next level and feeling somewhat limited. With my touch footy team, we dominated the local Balmain Touch comp at Timbrell the last few years and are looking to enter in Vawdon Cup this year (the first level of Rep footy in NSW). All about improving ourselves and playing against the best.

Firstly- The club has found itself in this situation largely due to paying overs for players
Secondly- There can be a big risk in signing players to long term contracts ( look at Blair & also Tim Smith at the Eels). I have every faith in the current management of the club. Some of these posts are becoming like car wrecks where you have to look even though you know they are going to be ugly.

Hey Shame on you…What are you doing ?

Actually questioning that Mayer isn't really doing what he says his doing.
"We are doing our best" "Working very hard"

You can't have a go at Mayer....I full expect your posts to be deleted.

Just check his twitter account you will find his working very hard (on his spin)

I think you agree with me on this….He needs to work harder and find his pen.

The moderators on the forum dont gag freedom of speech do they Irvine ?!?!?!

Back on the subject though ….. I think Mayers between a rock and a hard place on this one. If we can't accomodate everyone under the cap then he needs to sit down with whoever is coach next year and work out a plan so that we keep those we consider top of the list. Wouldnt like to be in his position on this one.

If we can't fit our squad under the cap then the first one to be let go is our accountant.
Take a look at the top teams How can they do it and we can't ?
Something doesn't add up in Tiger town.

Gee thats a good point …....... we don't exactly have a team of Origin stars do we !
Maybe we need to buy Mayer a new calculator !

In the paper today it says the Wests Tigers have yet to offer James Tedesco a new deal.
Yes most have said they want to stay but i guess it's fairly hard to sign a contract when you haven't even been offered one.

Actually, he would be playing against the best by staying with us. Going to the Roosters would mean he is playing with the best (in the short term).

Which paper would that be? I'd guess the Telegraph. Doesn't sound right at all.

They did exactly that with Lawrence a few years ago and now half the forum wants him let go.

What needs to happen is to arrange the contracts so that they are not all ending at the same time.

It's not as easy as saying "just sign here mate". The more money they give to Tedesco the less they have to sign Sirro and Nofo.

If it was easy we probably wouldnt be in this situation to start with.

How come the Bulldogs do it…

Fifita - 4 year contract
Graham - 4 year contract
Morris - 4 year contract
Lichaa - 3 year contract

Between these 4 players they consume $2.5M of the salary cap for the next 3 years...how do they fit in the other 22 players....?...some of them are also on huge coin!!...gotta love those spreadsheets !

They also signed Williams for 4 years on big money. Look how that turned out.

Anyway we already signed Brooks nad moses on 4 year deals. My point is that if everyone gets a 4 year deal you will never turn over any players and when they don't perform you get stuck with them.
