Get to know Reece Hoffman!

Are you guys serious blaming Mbye? He has been our best defensive back all year and our left side has been tight as a drum. Put a 19 rookie outside him and it turns to poo. James Roberts Try, Roberts caught the ball at centre WITH HOFFMAN INSIDE HIM!!!!

Because Mbye was marking Mitchell.
Hoffman wasn’t at fault tonight

Thought he looked nervous and to be honest out of place. Not crucifying him yet cause no one expected him to be playing NRL this year. Like others have said clearly not a winger, happy to give him a shot at right center

I disagree. Poor kid was burnt by mBye. If he stays in his wing he has 2 men inside him unmarked. Took the high ball well and ran pretty damn hard. For a first gamer well done mate. Won’t replace talau but will get better.

Imagine if Hoffmans debut was on Thursday playing for the Rorters, he'd be on cloud 9. Sorry kid, your first game was with us.

Idk what gave you that idea. Besides a bomb that he dropped backwards in the first 5 minutes, he was safe under the highball. Knew where his sideline was, and came back in when necessary. Compare that to the Titans winger who debuted against the Warriors. Got a nothing cut out pass from Ash Taylor, the kid was chopped liver, and went for the corner anyway, even though 2 Warriors players had him easily covered.

So true. Hoffman didn’t score 5 tries and he now knows what it’s like playing winger for a team which tries hard but sometimes doesn’t number up in defence.
We’ve had this problem for a while now, we keep getting belted in the middle third.
I thought Garner and Luchy were strong and solid. Hoffman had a good debut and showed plenty of promise. I’m looking forward to seeing Hoffman and Talau as our centre pairing.

You must have watched a different game, he rushed out of the line 4 time ah la Nofo the last couple of years.

Watched the same game. Why do you think Mbye was doing that, despite the fact that he has never done it before? Could it be he is desperately trying to shut down the play because his winger is badly out of position and out of his depth?

The Roberts try, Roberts (the centre) caught the ball OUTSIDE Hoffman (the winger) and still had his winger in support. Roberts didnt need it because he knew he could burn Hoffman

***We’ve had this problem for a while now,*** we keep getting belted in the middle third.

No. No we havent. Our left side defence has been rock solid ever since Mybe was shifted to centre. Rock solid. What changed?

Not specifically having a go at you here, there have been a few saying the same thing and Im genuinely interested. Why? Why are you looking forward to seeing Hoffman in first grade in any position? What attribute did you see last night that looked positive (genuine question)?

To me he looked small, slow and with poor positional sense in defence. Sure it was a debut and he is very young, its not his fault but I genuinely dont see what there is to be positive about.

couple of questionable decisions, don't know much about him but he seemed a little out of place on the wing. Is he usually a fullback or centre or wing?

in saying that, he doesn't look out of place in first grade. knew exactly what to do to poke his nose through and get a quick PTB every time. safe handling , not afraid of the contact and solid contact in defense.

positioning needs work but i think he seemed more of a centre than wing

He was sub par ...lacks pace ......why persevere .....what positives did he really offer

Unhappy chappy tonight mate

Why waste time when someone has no attributes that make him look remotely like he will succeed at this level ....it's a professional sport .....would the Top sides pick him ....simply put NO

Tell me one thing he did that gave you hope for his career at the WTs

Lets give him as many games as Nathan Milone then judge...

Hoffman never gave up did enough smart things like coming in from the touchline ..he's a kid who hasn't played an NRL game or any footy in 8 months let alone on the wing and fast enough ti find the TRYLINE on debut

Let's learn from those mistakes hey ....

Hoffman wouldn't make it near a top squad...let's aim higher ...stay away from mediocrity

Go and have a look at Madge's presser.

Great confidence booster for the kid, 4 tries down his side because his Captain can't defend.

You'd think having your Captain defending next to you would give you some confidence, not at the Tigers, not when Mbye is your Captain

? if you were coach would any young players get more than one game to prove themselves? Sure Hoffman looks slow, I posted as much here after the Penrith trial game. My preferred centres would be Momers and BJ with Talau and Hoffman either filling in for BJ’s holidays or playing wing.

Tries conceded by channel
Wests Tigers conceded 80 tries in 2019 at an average of 3.3 per game.

Their most successful defensive periods came in the opening and final 10 minutes of games with only 15 tries conceded in total.

Their toughest time periods came in the 30 minutes after half-time with 34 tries conceded (42.5% of their total conceded) in a stat to fix next season.

The Tigers conceded 22 tries through the centre of the paddock in another area to address.

Both left (31) and right (27) channels were similar in conceding tries defensively.

Too slow ...next

I agree. Might sound harsh and I know it was just his debut but he looked out of his depth tonight. He's behind Jennings at this stage.

That is rubbish - nobody is behind "The Bludger"

Even the witch hat man is in front of him.

Madge did say that but he probably isnt going to put Hoffman under the bus in his first game press conference either. he probably knows the captain can handle it. Yes he is still captain

Unfortunately

Couldn't captain a paper boat floating down the gutter.

He’s not a fully fledged captain. He’s a co-captain. Therefore whose expectations are not being met here? Certainly not the coaches. The loss that really hurt was against Penrith.

My expectations of what a Captain is are not being met. But I’m just a fan and don’t count right?

I'd have to go back and watch the tape but I thought Hoffman made a number of bad decisions and I don't think those were necessarily Mbye's fault.

Or to put it another way, Mbye defended fine the past few weeks with different wingers, but tonight our LHD got destroyed, and the difference was the new kid and Brooks missing more tackles than usual.

Last week it was the RHD being exploited.

But I don't see any specific reason to crucify Mbye, which is a favoured past-time on here, slightly ahead of lambasting Brooks. Hoffman isn't a winger clearly, and he went in of his own accord many times. The winger either goes in with his centre or stays out, but Hoffman did neither, kept getting caught in-between.

Not going to lash the kid, first game, but I don't see this being Mbye's fault.

Or to put it another way, Nofo for years has been savaged about running too far in from wing and taking nobody / turning like a bus, but Mbye gets blamed for Hoffman doing the same thing? They attacked Hoffman all night and waited for him to make his defensive play every time they went to their right.
