Glass Half Full

Genuine question: Say our opening five games were other teams, and we put in good performances and win majority of them. Then our round 6/7 were Raiders/Roosters and we get beat exactly like we did.

Would we still be panicking as much as we are now?

My point being its round 2, this team needs our support and not accept the season is over after only two games against two premiership contenders (who always towel us up). We win the next two and its happy days on here again, it's a long season its not over.

I am not sure panicking is the right adjective. Furious at the lack of effort more like it. It's not the fact we lost 40 to 6 it's how they lost. The effort in the second half was almost non existent. You cannot let that attitude continue and changes need to be made.

Don't get me wrong, I 100% agree with that, the effort was just not there.

I was more getting at if we had played a good handful of games well and then had two shockers againts two big teams we would be giving the side a lot more leniency. I see a alot of bring in: Madden, Simpkin, Tuki ect with the amount of change this team has had in the offseason dropping 4/5 top 13 for debutants is panicking. Let this team prove itself over 5-6 rounds and if we still put these performances in then make wholesale changes.

To me it doesn't matter when that attitude prevailed, round 2 or round 7, it cannot be just let go. Changes definitely need to be made. Brining in 4 or 5 debutants would not be my way of doing it, one or two maybe. Splitting up the Leilua brothers so they are not on the same side, replacing AJ with Talau and possibly replacing Garner. Brooks has had a couple of shockers but at the moment Madden is not ready to replace him. Brooks running game was OK but his kicking license should be suspended indefinitely until he can show improvement in that area off the field.

Happy with all those changes as they don't change the main makeup of the team. I too would be swapping the brothers and replacing AJ with Talau.

If after more consecutive losses the attitude is still not there. Main players start getting dropped.

You are gonna struggle for half-full feedback on here just now. It would be a totally different tune if we'd ground out a few wins against lower-ranked sides first two weeks, but it's been made all the worse by a "new dawn" offseason dividing a horrible year-end 2020 and an ordinary year-start 2021.

But I basically agreed with OP comments. Stefano was huge. Daine Laurie clearly abundantly talented. I thought Doueihi was alright, first proper game at 5/8th and trying to gel with Brooks. Doueihi needs to run with more purpose but I have a feeling he can find his feet.

- We have played 2 teams that will both finish in the top 4 no questions
- The spine is only 1 game in, combinations will grow hopefully sooner rather than later
- Laurie is a gem, lock him down

Big question over the Raiders finishing top 4. But if convincing yourself they will, no question cos it helps you sleep better, go right ahead.

You can find positives in anything. But are they really anything that’s going to turn the team around? There are too many good teams ahead of us. I’m sure we will look good here and there, and have some good wins, but to think it will be consistent enough to get us into the 8, that’s good old blind faith. It’s not going to happen. Then you have to ask where that leaves Madge. Besides Packer and Mbye, this squad was all signed and re-signed by him.

I'm not stoked with the losses but again it could induce positive change.

Our forward pack looks solid. Add blore, muzzie and we have a real good pack. Making meters, defended well against some of the best. Honestly the pack has had to make way too many tackles due to our backs and halves.

I have been a defender of joey but what he has served up lately has been putrid. Brooks similar. So maybe we change it up and see what happens.

In years gone by we had zero depth hopefully someone gets a shot and grabs it.

1. Laurie and Stefano
2. BJ and Kepoa won't play anymore
3. Brooks might get dropped
4. Forwards and right-side really hold their own
5. Liddle has been quite good
6. Musgrove back
7. We played two top 4 teams

Geez, I'd hate you to be my Barman. Half full? My glass must have a hole in it.

If we're gonna be half serious about this season....
Bye bye Brooks, bye bye Kaput, bye bye BJ (all rocks and no diamonds)

Tommy T - Lacks that bit of turbo
Twal is not a 13.
Laurie our best needs to have ball in hands. (possible 5/8 swap with Doehi)
Liddle needs to interchange with Simpkins.
Mumbai in centres. Need his awareness and and D.

Laurie
Nofa
Jet
Mbye
Gebene
Doehi
Madden
Musgrove
Liddle
Tamou
J'Ofa
Leliua
Garner

Cheeqs
Twal
Stefano U
Jake Simpkin

Mate those changes won't happen.

I thought last years losses induced positive change?

I don't understand this perception that our forwards have been doing a good job, one forward ran for over 100 metres on Sunday yet we allowed every rooters forward bar the new guy to run over 100 and Hargreaves from the bench did 167. None of our guys put their hand up to take two carries in a set, none of them work hard in attack its all on the backs to get us out of trouble. Joey has to go the crap on the weekend was the last straw but his brother is and has been a problem as well but i don't think people want to see it.

I agree (re the forwards). I thought our forwards went ok against the Raiders but were completely out played by the Roosters. No line speed, little aggression in defence, stood back and let them reach the advantage line before making contact - really disappointing. In saying that Brooks poor kicks in good field position offered them no reward just a poor performance all round. Laurie not included.

The first 15 mins we domainted them then we didnt see the ball for the next 20. I get the stats might not seem great but its hard to run 100m when you only have the ball for 25 mins of a game. Have a look at the stats and how many runs each forward got its lower then i have ever seen.

Alsso nearly every forward ran for 10 m a carry

Further to what you are saying but if you have a poor kicking game under wet conditions you will never win a match.
