Goal Line Defence

Disgusting edge defence, Storm cracked us every time they got near our tryline

It was our BIGGEST issue last season and there seems to have been absolutely no change to it at all since then.

Entirely on Madge. Add in the crap bench rotations and not a good night for him. It's a shame because our forward pack did quite well

How was his body language post game in the sheds? 😬😬😬

Looked extremely awkward.
Pacing around, like he was ashamed...

Storm had about 6 or 7 sets in our 20m line and came up with 5 tries. The one time they didn't score was when Olam dropped the ball over the line.

Very poor and not any better than last year in this regard.
I would like to know if the coaches see what we see, if they did wouldn't that "problem" of goal line defence be fixed up by now....coaches open your eyes...if we fix this up we win....that would be nice wouldn't it ?
Because if we lose again next weekend the players-us-will drop our heads and that'll be it for season 2022

I thought they looked exhausted after going extra hard in the first half. I did worry if they could match the Storm in intensity in the second half after the first half. They didn't pass the ball as much in second half and went back to 5 hit ups and Brooks bomb. I'm not as disappointed as I normally get! (or am just numb!)

Probably needed another turnstile to assist in the flow of departing Tigers fans who were disgusted to see the game rapidly slipping away due in part to pathetic use of the bench.
Thats something that definitely has not changed from last year. Must be really good for Garners confidence.

We may win a game If the opposition does not get any ball near our line

We still don’t have players that can rally in defence and get the team up , we were good early then just faded away , we need to buy a solid defender now with experience , Blore is out for the season , Dragons have got Simms in reserves , I would look at him for the bench ,

The overall aggression in defence, and use of defence as a form of attack, was good for about 70 of the 80 minutes.

But I agree the Storm really hurt us by simply having the fullback drift and hold up the pass. It remains an ongoing Tigers issue the defensive decisions on both edges half-backrow-centre-wing. Each time a different player had a go at making a bad choice, it wasn't just one person.

The line speed was amazing in the first 40!

We actually know how to tackle and wrestle, but when we have to make decisions under pressure, we get it wrong 5/10 times.

I liked a lot of what we did last night - the exception being goal line defence. Can the coaches fix this? I hope so. I cannot imagine they will not be doing a lot of work on this area this week. I mean we have all seen this as a problem least year. You cannot have lazy players on the inside not covering gaps and leaving outside backs having to come up with Hail Mary plays with two on one situations. If this doesn't improve, we will be favourites for the spoon.

Also I thought the refs were really lenient on the wrestle and Storm started to really push the boundaries of legal binding in the ruck. I think refs hardly penalised either side for holding down, more focused on the odd hand in the ruck and then 10 metres.

But- but these defensive issues have been a problem with us for years, why aren't the so called experts at our club seeing this, surely if it were fixed up we could do well, it's all so disheartening for the fans and members. I hope Tim Sheens can see what the problem is and fix it and fix it quickly.

Meant the general effort to that point.

You had to be watching a different game to me.

We held field position and possession for 50mins and did hardly anything with it.

The second the Storm (was the same for the Roosters and Manly trial games) got any decent field position we split apart. They didn't even move up a gear. We made dumb mistakes, missed simple tackles, disjointed line defense and stopped defending in numbers for the last 30mins.

We can say it's only round 1 but I didn't see any signs at all to indicate we improved from last year in the Storm game. If we want to be competitive we need to hold our line otherwise we will be blown off the park for the majority of games.

Does his best work when fresh in the 73rd minute, while still unlikely, it enhances his chances of bruising a grape.
