Who was the other player that was going to be the next big thing who we lost to the Roosters? Was it Pritchard? He got a couple of games in grade and then I have never heard of him again.

Blake Lazarus?

No not him Watto, was it Reece Pritchard? He was an outside back/winger…

Peni Tagive I'd reckon, just retired

It was pritchard. Was unstoppable try machine in State cup, went to the roosters got a few games, and was actually doing well but then got injured which led to the roosters moving in another direction.

Always thought Josh Davis and Nu should have been given a chance at least, but no longer watch state cup to offer up any suggestions of current players.

Willie Mataka?

From Wikipedia;

Willie Mataka (born 18 October 1988) is an Australian professional rugby league player for the Wests Tigers in the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) competition. He plays mostly in the second row.
Mataka played junior football with the East Campbelltown Eagles.
He will join the Sydney Roosters in 2011.
He will join the Parramatta Eels in 2012.

Had high hopes for this kid…
What clubs he at for 2013?

Sheens was a Tool. he had so much talent in the likes of Nu Akepira. Rhys Pritchard Josh Davis and Andrew Everingham ,just to name a few but because all 4 played for Wests and not Balmain they never got a look in and that's the truth of it.!!!! he instead wasted time in Balmain players like Meany, Lazarus and latu ….' Politics in sport;' DOES EXIST'

im not 100 % on this but dindn't Nathan Waters make his first grade debut after leaving Wests to play for Balmain.??

Think you are wrong about that one. Josh Davies was 18th man several times while running around for the Mighty Magpies as well

He was on a rainy night in Newcastle. Warmed up with the side and everything

It is a funny old comp NSW cup, the standard is pretty good, but the introduction of professional football has meant the gap is huge between NRL and NSW cup.

NSW cup is made up of fringe first graders, aspiring kids, some of which will go on to make it, many wont and a heap of blokes that are good footballers but are not NRL players. And it is a harsh reality, barring a miracle, no one outside the full time squad is likely to get a call up, regardless of how well they play.

There are so many blokes that are pretty good at NSW cup year on year, for us blokes like Meeney, Waters, Davis and Farlow seem to be pretty good year on year with not much chance of parlaying that into an NRL career.

The biggest thing is size and fitness IMO

It's so hard for guys in state cup who work all week to get to their body to the same size, shape and fitness of a full time nrl player. You can tell just by looking at a guy like Sean spence compared to say Matt bell.

Very similar players but bell looks miles ahead as he gets a chance to be that guy

Spot on, 2 blokes that are similar in ability, one make the full time squad the other doesn't, 12 months down the track, they are no longer similar in ability, for exactly the reason you say, exactly why the gap between the 2 levels is so huge, soon as apart time player comes against a full time player it is unfortunately a non contest.

Then theres Jake Mullaney. He is good, but just not at NRL.

Yeah agree totally. Watched Mullaney and Ben Roberts carve up in NSW Cup yesterday. Roberts looked like an up an coming JT … but we've all seen these guys up in the top grade and sadly, it just doesn't happen for them.

He was pretty poor when he had a chance in FG.
He killed NYC though and was amazing in the Samoa Vs Tonga game recently.

I agree though.

Tim Lafai is also too good for NSWCUP.
Wish we'd sign him.

Along with Pritchard, Eastwood, Kasiano & Taupau

Bump.
Good thread this one…

Me saying Simona is too good for NSW cup now he's a gun starter
Me also suggesting signing Taupau which we did....

Hahaha.
