Going to market for a controlling half...

"Controlling half" - we just want a half back to do what Brooks should do for 80 mins so Brooks can fulfill what ever it is that Sheens sees as vital for our team.
Did some good things yesterday - only saw the shortened coverage on Fox - but again we dominated the stats which says something is not working with the ball in hand.

When the Club decides to punt Hastings and Madden

Not much thought went into that

Ah shit now they've realised its come to bite them and now we're strapped for a decent half

WT do everything backwards

I seriously hope sheens and co sort something out before the next fortnight, otherwise they're gonna have guys playing in all sorts of positions and it will be one big mess.

Trindall option 1. 3 year deal Slide scale pay $ 400 $ 550 $ 650 or similar
Sezer. option 2 2 year deal 31 years old so 2 years max , I have no idea what he would expect as salary to come back to Australia and our mess
option 3. Grab the young Eels half from lower grade and put him under Sezer for 2 years and prep him ready for 2025

The Naden injury is obviously a big blow but for the future of the tigers, the Doueihi injury while obviously devastating for him, could be an opportunity to figure out what decent options they may have there at 6 or 7.

This is the point in time where everyone should be pointing out how much of a mistake it was to let Madden go. I was a pretty big fan in the limited time he had on field.

Madden is a good kid that wanted to do his best, unfortunately he was only given limited opportunities with us and should have been coached far better than he was....

I'm not stating he was our best option in the halves but he wasn't much behind all of our halves options last year if he was behind at all. He would also have been on significantly less dollars.

We should have kept him.

In stating that there must be other options available. We have a really great opportunity for a half right now.

Contracts mean nothing , if we got of our arse and put a offer to whoever we wanted , u up there salary and offer them 1st grade spot most would demand a release
If we put in like we did in the 2nd half yesterday consistently. Plenty of blokes would be jumping out of their skin to come across. It's one thing to ask players to join when your getting flogged. But when they can see fight and heart then guys know it's a decent place to play for because the players are putting in. All we need is that controlling half. With that half and kindness with injuries we're a top 8 side. Other thing I thought about is 5 out of the six sides we lost to were there to be beat. It can't be a coincidence it's not that they are always off there game, it's that we have improved everywhere but in the finish of the opposition 20.

I don't think Sheens will make any reactive short-term decisions to fill the void with Doeuihi's season-ending injury. That is probably something the old Wests Tigers would do which would set us back long-term.

Sheens/Benji will be doing all they can to secure an elite experienced directional halfback & that will only be likely from next season (i.e. George Williams, Brayden Trindall, Mitchell Pearce).

So 1 of 2 scenarios I see ...

1. We go with what we have & keep Daine Laurie for the remainder of this season. Brooks, Wakeham, Laurie & Will Smith (from Round 10). Wakeham & Brooks can both goal kick.

2. We release Daine Laurie & pick up a player for the rest of 2023 with the incentive to them being playing 1st grade & pushing for a contract extension. The most viable solution here would be Kurt Falls who is experienced & a goal kicker. Penrith have plenty of backup in the halves with Salmon, Peachey & Cogger so Falls is expendable. We upgrade Jahream Bula for the 30th spot who provides fullback/wing cover now.

That would have been Sheens who would have decided to get rid of them the club would just rubber stamp it

Agree on all. I see some people didn't like him but with the opportunities he had I thought he was improving ea chance he got.

I'm of a different opinion. I'm willing to be plenty of thought went into the decision; however, it was based on AD and Brooks being able to perform behind a better pack. As we know the premise was flawed.

There is no doubt that they know they got that decision wrong - they may be arrogant but they aren't stupid.

It was a clear strategy to focus on developing a better pack and assess the performance of the halves and backline in 23 with a view to recruiting a solution for 24. The pursuit of Munster and Moses indicates that we always knew there was a deficiency - and they are looking for a solution.

Despite the pain so far I think we can take some positives away. If we were winning some games some would be tempted to keep AD, probably as depth, partner Brooks with a real half, and look for better finishing options. What they have proven is that neither AD or Brooks meet the standard required and that must really sting the "grown ups" at WT. I trust that it hurts enough for them to do something positive.

If we can, it would good to get someone held back at another club in on a short term contract; however, this should be pursued in concert with getting a known quantity for 24.
