Gold coast, Newcastle, Bulldogs, dragons, Broncos

I know we are the worst of this bunch, but these teams have loaded their rosters, put up and coming coaches in, get all the hype and are all still a hundred miles off being top tier. In many ways we're in a better position than them with better cap flexibility in future and eventually getting new training facility.

These clubs show that there's not an easy way to success. Even with quality purchases, desirable coaches and supposedly good club cultures it doesn't guarantee success.

We're all sick of losing, but I don't really envy any of those teams. Feels almost like they have to blow it all up again. You could argue we are still building.
Goes to show.
How many people and critics laughed at Gus for his 5 year plan that extended out to 10years.
Still the panthers never moved off the course.
I’m most curious how Parramatta out of all the other teams turned it all around.

Ba bought a lot of hard heads in the forwards and they improved from that point . They never had issues with points but couldn’t tackle and would get flogged

In regards to recruitment , even tho I loathe the man , Gould had it correct at Penrith (more to buy him time from criticism then actually building the club up imo ).

If the club is a shambles you have to reset and build everything back up , problem is in professional sports it’s all about the short term and all decisions made from previous coaches and this included McGuire have been due to short term aims and desperation.

The peachey signing , there is no way in hell McGuire signs him if he wasn’t desperate .
There was no need to sign a utility already have douehi who can cover whole backline and Hastings can cover lock and halves .
Also forget about peacheys form , even at his best he was inconsistent and typical rocks and Diamond player when at his best . He would never have signed him if tigers crusp of top 8 or on top 8 with or with no pressure on his job .

I'm not saying 'how good are we compared to these guys so it's all good that we suck'. In fact, I started by saying we are the worst of the bunch.

But even considering that, I'd say these clubs have been perceived to be on track for the last three years in terms of coaching and recruitment, yet really they don't seem close. We all wanted better recruitment, but looking at those teams, it takes even more than that.

So my post was mainly to highlight that there's not an easy fix and success is hard and perhaps we're not so bad off despite short term (or actually it's been long-term) pain. I'm not really sure what some of the posts are going against in my post. I suppose just general disappointment that this isn't a Luke Brooks discussion?
If you look at all the past Premiership winners, the common theme is they have at least 1 out and out superstar in the side. A generational talent that is either the best in his position or the most skilful in his position.
I don’t see anybody in our team / reserves / juniors that fits that mould so we’ll have to recruit them in. At this stage it would be a waste bringing them in to the team just to make us more competitive. I.e David Fifita. You need to time it right to recruit, or have a player of that class in your system.

Actually your right. They blew the cap in 2016 on that side and were rightly punished.
But transferred into their club the year prior was Anthony Watmough, Danny wicks and Richard Faoso and in 2016 they got Michael Jennings, Kieron Foran and Beau Scott.
No wonder they were over

A lot on here were jealous of the Bulldogs signings but those players signed looked like inflated contracts in areas which wouldn't make them a top side (beside Matt Burton).

There's similar woes at Knights and Titans.

I think all these clubs are in a very difficult position. You'd think if Knights and Titans don't improve it would be hard to keep the promising coaches in their positions.

Spending money on the right players is crucial, Broncos and cowboys spending big money on experienced halves seems to have made their sides better. This seems the key. Maybe Hastings is that for us, but if not that's where we have to look because otherwise it doesn't seem to matter.

Pretty incredible to think most of us (and I include myself in the most) were struggling to think how the Tigers could beat those teams mentioned in the Topic thread title after that shambles of a performance v Sharkies....what I difference two weeks makes huh?
Now I'm far more optimistic about us getting ahead of those teams on the table...although I am still very weary of a Jekyll & Hyde attitude shift so will continue biting my lip for the next 2-3 weeks.

I know it feels like a corner has turned but geez this team has burnt us so many times before.

Let's see....

Keep it up boys!

Love the way Justin Holbrook (who I'm pretty sure is DCE's father) tried to emulate the Talaki to centre experiment at the Sharks with David Fifita to centre at the Titans.

Unfortunately in his case it was an epic fail.

Yeah, I just think despite Fifita being a brilliant player, having players like him and TPJ and Kikau isn't something that is going to change a team's fortunes. So these players, as good as they are, probably arent worth as much salary cap space that they take up. In the Melbourne model at least, those players aren't the ones getting massive contracts.
