Golden Wattle Flag

Surely they mean ACT not territories and other states!

NT, Jervis Bay Territory, overseas territories?

Well done, I totally missed NT wasn't there! No need to lump ACT and NT with "future states" though. They bring a lot more income and cultural significance than something that may or may not be perceived in the future.

In terms of the flag, I like the idea of the wattle and green and gold are more in line with people's perception of Australia.

Personal opinion is no point discussing changing the flag or becoming a republic if we aren't getting rid of the political process that has seen our prime ministership being the revolving door that it is!

What's the alternative?

Voting in a president and not a party.

Rubbish

Agree … It looks crap .

Aren't you a Pom? Of course you wouldn't like it.

Yes by birth …have dual citizenship now
By all means remove the Union Jack from the current flag if that's where we're heading .
But I doubt it will happen in my lifetime ... Most Aussies can't decide on BBQ or Tomato sauce , nevermind becoming a republic and changing the flag

I just think that Golden Wattle design looks naff!
Just the Southern Cross with the current blue background looks great .

Genuinely though there is an issue with just the southern cross on blue as it's been appropriated by some racist groups and has an association with "White" Australia. I'm not saying we can't take the icon back, but Canada proved you can get a really good result by doing away with as much old symbology as possible on a new flag.

And I've never really understood why our flag is blue, red and white when the national colours for absolutely everything else has settled on green and gold. Makes sense to me to have the flag do the same. Gold also provides a link to the aboriginal flag.

In general I like it and it's better than our current flag.
Also think it's a good time to change. I like the Canadian model. If they can do it, we can to.

Doesn't the Wattle also have cultural significance to the Aboriginal peoples?

I think the design looks good and is clever in its own way.
There are two very vocal groups that will have something to say about it though.
I agree with Jirskyr and CB that the Aboriginal ties with wattle and gold should satisfy most of their members.
I dont know how we'll get past the poofs wanting a rainbow on there though….

Yeah gotta say I do like it. NZ and PNG have already 'claimed' the sthn cross and the wattle is ours.

A couple of interesting things… the website is a .com site not com.au what the??

And there's a blue/gold option - also interesting (don't know how to attach pic)

I think it's ok, but agree that if we just got rid of the Pom icon and just kept the Southern Cross on the blue background, it would be more acceptable to a wider cross section.
The Aboriginals identify with the Southern cross, after all they all lived under it for thousands of years.
My daughter is a Quarter aboriginal , and we've had this discussion before about the SC,
and according to her the idigenous people that she knows, actually like that idea over most others that have been floated over the years, ( they'd prefer their own one though) but it could be a good compromise .
The current one has to go If Canadians can do it so can we.
Their flag is so individual, and I think it's the best looking as well.

I just can't see the Golden Wattle being a hit ...
Who'd want that tattooed on their upper arm compared to the Souhtern Cross ?!

I honestly don't know, but it makes sense that there would be.
