Grant coming utai going?

Having speed does help. There is a long list of players in past years which have had speed as core skill to build on have added other attributes with experience and hard work to become great players. They usually start playing short with defective builds and/or tackling techniques …. but in most cases that can be coached into them.

No doubt Mmudra but if thats all you have got and can't add to it You will not make it in the NRL

Speed isn't the key to being a good footballer but it is the start to becoming a good winger. A first grade winger should be good under the high ball, fast and able to read plays in defense. Grant has the one of those three things that u can't teach. Wingers don't need to be the best tacklers in the game seeing that they make 5-6 tackles per match. As long as he can read the play and know when to push in and when to stay back, defense can be taught. Although hopefully they can do a better job teaching him how to catch than what they did with beau ryan.

I wouldn't doubt this guy getting some regular games. He is like lightning, came second in the sprint race last year to turner but finished ahead of hayne Morris barba Gardner an inglis

When will people stop thinking that speed is the key to being a good footballer . Can speak from experience and found as I got slower I learnt far more about the game as I wasn't solely reliant on speed . The other thing you learn about speed is most guys are about the same speed wise(over twenty to thirty metres might only be a metre and a half between most backs) when you get to top level so being a one trick pony won't get you anywhere .

Grant can seriously play, he is more than just quick. He is a quality footballer.

Shute Shield is a similar standard to NSW cup, if a player was dominating NSW cup like he is Shute Shield, we'd all be screaming blue murder if he was not selected in NRL

The highlights package suggests he puts his body on the line to score a try, is tall and strong, good under the high ball, super quick and can pass. You don't do what he has done in Shute Shield & International 7's without a lot of talent. Certainly deserves a modest one year deal.

Moses if he can't tackle they will be directing people left right and centre at him If a winger misses three tackles and two result in triesthats not good Union is a lot harder to isolate people in defence than league is also . I'm not saying he's not a good union player I'm just saying look at the scrapheap of falied Union players to League and the quality of some of them . This guy can't even get a run in one of 5 Rugby franchises in Super 15's and its not as if we have an abudance of good wingers in Australian Rugby Union with size and speed

happy tiger, may be he does not have patches on his carrigan, u know what i mean they are a little funny over that way.

Did someone say Utai lacks go forward??? :S

I hope he is with us in 2012 bit more finishing practice he could be our next tuiaki.

i think utai offers more as a utility then brown ryan and meaney. IMO utai is a must in the 14 jersey next season

totally agree.
i'm surprised how little discussion there has been of the value utai can bring from the bench.
perfect role for him that could extend his time in the nrl and be a genuine 80-100 yard player from the bench.

Gee, I had better tell Ian Moir, Ken Irvine, Mike Cleary et al that they may be wasting their time trying out for the NRL.

Utai has proved he is a very valuable addition to our team this year,

I am a convert, The man has the heart of Beau Ryan.

I hope he is on the Wing for us in 2012

Another ridiculous thread . Grant will be play for BRET or Wests next year in the hope of securing an NRL contract for 2013\. His signing and Utai's future are completely irrelevant to one another .

Disagree completely. He will obv start with BRET or Wests, but he will definitely be getting first grade time next season. I've played both codes and it doesn't take too long to adapt, for a professional it will be even easier.

I'm also a fan of Utai as the bench utility.

Utai is the buy of the season. His weakness under a high ball is more than made up for with his go forward and sheer determination. I think the #14 is his and I hope we look after him next year.

very good point col….a kid with pace is any coaches dream...no matter how good defensively you are you cant catch a bloke who can get past you with pace .....grant signed for 1 year ,, so my guess is sheens will use him ....
