Grant vs Smith

If Harry Grant goes back to Melbourne and Liddle isn’t what we expect him to be, where does that leave Brandon Smith?

I’d happily take him

He can join up with Simpkins at Wests Tigers in 2021.

Brandon Smith said in an interview last week that he expects to be Hooker if Cameron retires.

In fairness to Brandon, he probably should be. Quality dh who has proven himself at international level. Harry has only had one good first grade game with us.
Once you let that sink in, we are getting excited over one game, an we don't have him for next year yet, and the team that has him may have 2 better options for 2021...shows how far we are from the storm

is Grant locked in to storm next year if smith retires ?

Yes. He is contracted until end of 2022.

Contracts were made to be broken in the NRL.

Just stating a fact - if we want to sink to parras level then go for it.

Yeah the clause is only activated if Smith plays on, but if the other Smith is going to play hooker Harry might fancy staying on if he see more opportunity and he can get the storm to release him.

Not according to JAD,who desperately wanted to leave for emotional reasons blah blah...and Storm cited his contract.
We set a real precedent with Moses, which was exploited by Matterson...we shld never do that again

Would love Harry to stay. We're constantly buying potential. It would be great to buy a kid who is proven and on his way up.

Forgetting the whole Cam smith playing on, if B Smith is going to be 9, or if there is even a risk of it, Harry will surely pull the clause in his contract

Way too early for me to even consider options..have a look in 10-12 games time. All I could see was that Grant looks a little more durable than Walters and perhaps a stronger defender. As for service maybe he has an edge, but Walters did look sharp out of dh and maybe even quicker than Grant. It was Walters speed that caught Cronulla's tired middles napping and put us on the front foot.
Certainly under this new style NRL getting on the front foot and having your forwards coming on to the ball gives you a big roll on. Teams that could do that were easily making big yardage as the games went on. The Raiders did that so well and then backed it up with relentless "in your face" defence for the full 80 - so much so they made the Storm look ordinary (which is no easy feat). There was plenty of desire and effort in the Raiders - hope they are not that "ON" when we play them.

If we honour the agreement this can become a regular occurrence between the two clubs. In that way we build a good rapport with a very successful team and perhaps some of our best young players can learn from Bellamy.

Grant could always prefer it here as well after a year…nothing to say the kid needs to re-sign with them

I think Grant has a contract for next year with Storm, as Momo does with Tigers. If the team and player agree, a contract can be terminated.

fair enough....but we all know what nrl contracts are worth these days if you don't want to play somewhere

Bellamy seems to be made of sterner stuff ..look at the JAC situation

I hope we become such a powerhouse that swapping players becomes ancient history and worrying /arguing where all the trophies (Leichhardt or Cambo ) will fit becomes the biggest concern

True, we have a chance here to learn from one of the big boys. Build up some professional courtesy.
There's absolutely no way we'd consider such an arrangement with Penrith or Eels for example. Can't trust them.

You can certainly see the similarities between how Grant and Smith okay. Obviously smith is the best hooker ever, but Grant is very good.

His service from dummy half not only helps our forwards roll forward better but it gives Benji and brooks way more room to work with which is especially dangerous for opposition with the new rules.

He’s also willing to run the footy and back himself which is just another dimension to his game that gives our other players more room. He was fantastic at drawing in the opposition markers before releasing the footy.

He seemed to be everywhere in defence as well racking up 46 tackles not just in the middle but shutting down the Cronulla attack on the edges too

It was only one game and as Madge said he needs to back it up now but there’s plenty to like about Grant.

It’s about time we got a young talent to break their contract and steal them off another club, it’s happened to us too many times 😂

What's this about the JAC situation? Haven't heard his situation being dealt with any different than usual.
