Thanks for the link Flippedy interesting reading. It's a pity boxing no longer has the heavyweight characters of times gone by. People like Cassius Clay (Ali) created a lot of interest in boxing which is for the most part lacking nowadays.

I'll give you the 6 best I have seen in footage or live and take your pick

1 Mohammad Ali
2 **Rocky Marciano**
3 Joe Louis
4 Joe Frazier
5 Mike Tyson
6 Larry Holmes

You can add someone different if you like

From the six i have picked if they all fought against each other first at the top of their games and you were left with the two best records in my opinion you would have Tyson and Ali left and Ali to beat Tyson Just my opinion What is your opinion ??

Oh there they go. There they go, every time I start talkin 'bout boxing, a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out their ass. That's their one, that's their one. Rocky Marciano. Rocky Marciano. Let me tell you something once and for all. Rocky Marciano was good, but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't s***.

He beat Joe Louis' ass…!

Joe Louis was a washed up boxer by this stage fighting to try and eradicate his enormous tax debts due to poor management . Marciano himself said Joe would of beaten himself in his prime
They became close friends

Joe Louis was 75 years old when they fought! Joe Louis had come out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano, the man was 76 years old! Joe Louis was always lying about his age. He lied about his age all the time. One time Frank Sinatra came in here and sat in this chair. I said Frank "you hang out with Joe Louis, just between me and you, how old is Joe Louis?" You know what Frank told me, he said "Hey, Joe Louis is 137 years old." A hundred and thirty-seven years old!!

classic stuff.

The heavyweight scene is a little out of my knowledge area….I wouldnt have Holyfield near the top, but gee, he's one of my favourite ever fighters. Shame he has continued to box well past his prime

I don't think I'd have him in my top 10\. If anything your comments (and Danos) more highlight how under-rated Riddick Bowe is. Only lost 1 fight in his career (against Holyfield who he beat twice) and even that fight he was ahead when that idiot flew into the ring. Holyfield was a great warrior but he was a little outclassed against guys like Bowe and Lewis.
