IMO its too cheap. Greenberg is totally the wrong guy to receive it, but the CEO of the NRL should be getting more than Greenberg was getting, but the CEO of the NRL should also earn that and be worth that.

That was always the problem when they appointed Greenberg. He had no qualifications or experience and the NRL shopped in the bargain bin hopeing to get value. They didnt. I hope they dont make the same mistake again.

Not sure Im explaining myself properly. The CEO of theNRL should be getting more than Greenberg was receiving, but there is no one within RL worthy of that money.

I think $1.2 mill is obscene for any job.

A CEO position is a tool in the business (insert Greenberg joke here). His role is to grow the business and make money and as a result his salary should reflect that success.

Take Alan Joyce for example. I cant stand him personally (due to his injecting his own politics into the business and poor treatment of pilots and other employees) but he is a great example of the benefit of re-imbursement of CEO's. His base salary is $2M. last year he received $23M. On the face of that you could say the same as you said before that no one is worth that, obscene etc but he turned QANTAS around from constant loss making into last year a profit of $1.3B. Compared to that $1.3B, let alone the turnaround (when you take the losses into account) that $23M is loose change. Of course the natural thought and reaction is how can he be worth $23M when his employees are getting $50-$60K or whatever, but because of his $23M, 25,000 people have a job, that they might not have otherwise. If you dont pay Joyce that amount, some other company will and potentially, the company doesnt get turned around.

That is the problem, for $1.2M, many of the top potential candidates would not take on the NRL role and you get grifters like Greenberg.

I am not a fan of politicians but the leader of a country such as ours should be getting more than they do and CEOs a hell of a lot less

Well, as far as I know Joyce is not taking a wage at present.
He’ll still have his hand out for his bonus though.
Still don’t believe the shifty little bugger had that much to do with bringing all the money in.
Interesting to see how smart he is getting things back on track after this virus.

I dont like him (good mates who are QANTAS pilots) and I dont know the ins and outs of how they turned it around, but credit where credit is due, that is a massive turn around in a tricky market. Despite the fact I dont like him, he is a stand example of getting what you pay for (giving him the benefit of the doubt).

The money Greenberg was on is what you would expect a CEO of a company the size of the NRL to be on. Of course the vast majority of CEO’s who receive that money are highly qualified, highly experienced and have leap frogged a lot of a group of equally talented candidates to get the job.
The above doesn’t describe Toddy. Basically Todd was very good at talking the talk, but that’s where it all ended. Of course Grant and Beatie certainly did not help things for Todd

I get that its a free market and people will get paid whatever someone is willing to pay them. Don't begrudge them either. I just hate that we've got to this stage where people get that sort of money when others are on minimum wage. As soon as this hit employees were stood down immediately, its disgusting.
What the hell would you do with that sorry of money?

Well in this case QANTAS is not exactly a good example. As soon as this hit, nobody needed to be stood down, there is just zero work. No one is flying anywhere. Again, based on info I know, I dont like the bloke but to his credit, he stopped taking a wage when this hit (a lot easier to stop taking a wage when you you just got paid $23M).

Back to the original point (Greenberg) he announced all players were copping a hit on their salary but his own didnt suffer. It is also ridiculous to announce everyone cops the same percentage deduction. Massive difference wearing a 50% haircut when you are on $1M to when you are on $ 80K

Pure speculation but I think it makes sense that if as reported, when part of the reason Toddles was pushed was the missing money/players super/players fund etc that the guy responsible for looking after those finances fall on his sword as well.

Looks like V'landys is taking out the trash.
