Ground announcer quits

I could totally believe that the club, and many of its staff are not very good (compared to staff at other clubs) at their jobs and that in the past everyone was happy, rainbows abounded in the office and they all stopped at midday to sing kumbaya. Probably had someone bringing in a cake everyday too.

The club is a business and people need to be highly competent at their jobs to remain with the club. I have no idea if the staff were or weren't any good at their job. Long service means little in the end. A big than you for your efforts, but if they can't do their jobs at an acceptable level then they deserve to be criticised (in private) and sacked if necessary. To yell at staff in public view of all other staff would be very poor management though!

Yes, you need a positive workplace culture, and people getting along well and having the occasional social event is good for morale and hence the company. But everyone needs to be accountable for their performance: Board, Managers, Coaches, Players and Office staff…

Guys calm down.

If people are sacked, it's usually for a reason.

If they have been treated harshly that stuff doesn't stay under wraps for long. Especially at our club which leaks like a sieve.

There are two sides to every story, and it seems to be the fashionable thing atm to bash Grant Mayer, even if it is for cleaning out the joint like many have been screaming for.

Like Mayer or not, the cleaning out of the joint has started.

That's all fine and good Tigermama , but does he have people ready to go who are better than the people they are replacing ??

Word will get round league circles very quickly if Mayer is the problem and we will have even more issues

I do hope everything will be fine and good Happy. It's up to the new board now. They seem intelligent enough, so they should be able to work things out and hope they keep the best person for the job aboard for the betterment of the club. Again we have to wait and see. It will take time and smarts to get our club financially stable. Major changes coming up.

If you re read the thread they walked , they weren't pushed

I'm with 'westy81'; who knows what the background was? Given 'smeg's' observation, at least part of the cleanup was required.

Thanks mate

It's a good indication at where the club is. They are dropping like flies, not such a good thing.

On the contrary, there's action taking place which is a good thing. Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always got.

Does not matter what happens to this club they can not win …Remember reading how every body was up in arms about how unprofessional the club was and how they were treated over memberships...a lot have very short memories .
Maybe personnel have been told to ship up or ship out and many have decided on the latter.
Just remember the complaints at seasons start.

The ground announcer walked Happy, not the others as far as I can tell.

The ground announcer is about as important to the club as the kid who sells ice cream on the hill.

Really? As important as the kid selling ice-cream? Were you at the game on Saturday afternoon? Whoever was doing it struggled, they were not a professional announcer and you could tell. Tommy has been good for the club, you need a strong voice to communicate over the PA. Steve Allen at ANZ Stadium is one, the guy at Brookie. They are far more important than the kid selling ice-cream.

Maybe with a new board Mayer won't be hamstrung and will be allowed to actually run the club.

Hamstrung. Are you joking ? Mayer has done whatever he wants and has been accountable to no one.
Maybe Maybe Maybe with the new board he will be more accountable.

How will that happen when the Chairperson just gave him the green light to run the place

The one person we should be getting rid of will end up staying :brick:

When everything changes nothing actually changes

Apart from rhetoric and signing up juniors, what has he actually done this year?

As long as the ball boys are safe..I'm happy…the kid really knows his stuff after a 40/20...
