GWS debutants

I was just taking my dog for a walk in the town greeen at breakfast point, saw a couple of young blokesin GWS gear kicking a footy, I noticed Chad Cornes come up and tell them to enjoy themselves, it clicked that they must be playing tonight, I than noticed how excited and nervous they were and when just in ear shot, one of them said to the other "can you believe tomorrow we are going to wake up as AFL players", it was really cool to see how excited these young guys (who looked so young)were to achieve what is undoubtedly their life long dream. It was so good to see I wanted to share it.

Yeah I mean good luck to them and despite what we think of the team you can't begrudge these young blokes their dream. It shows the very different way the AFL and NRL approach introducing new teams. AFL just load them up with young guys and settle in for a season or two of poor results. Whether they can keep all these guys long enough to reap the benefits is the question.

Wish the players good luck but I won't be shedding too many tears when the team get smashed…

Thanks for sharing, Goose. It's great to see that excitement in any young players living their dream.

By giving them all those draft pick exemptions, in a few years both Gold Coast and GWS are likely to have a very good period, I've jumped from the Swans to the Giants, Im glad that they have pumped so much money into facilities and junior development for kids in the west, give kids an opportunity to get out there and play some sport.
Wish the NRL and NSWRU would do similar.

Like I said though the key is whether they can keep them or how many of them live up to their early promise. There is also a danger in creating these teams from the top down - you end up with an insufficient base to have a long-term team. Took the Swans a decade and a half to get anywhere near there. The A-League is full of bad examples.

They are playing 17 debutants in tonight's game. That's all but 5 blokes with 0 AFL experience.

Going to take them a long time before they are competitive

Good on them I hope they go well this year I'm a massive nrl supporter but afl is heaps better to watch live than nrl. I flew down to the MCG to watch a game last year there were 84000 people there it was awesome

So IMO anyone that plays AFl is missing at least one testicle. It is a game for cowards and I wish them every inconvenience possible. It is the game that dorks play….....

actually….the only people that are sadder are the wimps that support them....if I have upset anyone my answer is that I am drunk and you are soft .

AFL is for the kids that society forgot. Those that were blessed with zero skills and zero attitude. It is only just better than soccer.....

LOL stryker, I love all sport if you can score it, ill prob watch it

AFL players are awesome athletes
