Home game in Hamilton sold out

This weekend’s Round 24 NRL Telstra Premiership match between Wests Tigers and New Zealand Warriors in Hamilton is a sellout.

24,000 stadium sold out.

I have a friend living in Auckland, so another tigers supporting friend and me are heading over.

Any other tigers fans going? I think we will be slightly outnumbered!

Meh, what does it matter… seasons gone, I’m actually happy we are the club doing something for the warriors to thank them for hanging in there thru covid. And let’s be honest, the soccer World Cup has taken out home grounds away regardless… we would be playing at parramatta or somewhere that doesn’t mean Jack to us. The warriors coach has done amazing things and has a tigers connection, lets make a better relationship with Benji’s home… who knows, we might surprise them.

Happy enough for this one-off thank you match, as the Warriors gave up a hell of a lot at a very trying time.

That said, as our WT have basically been a nomadic team for a decade, I can also understand others not wanting to give up yet another game from our real home grounds.

The NRL should be heavily promoting the game across all it media partners as a special match and especially the huge part WT are playing in it.

It’s a smart play. They knew we would be out of contention by this stage + get a big crowd and it’s a nice touch for the NZ fans that didn’t have home games for two years.

Interestingly, Tigers have played 4 home games in New Zealand (prior to this weekend) and won 3 of them.

3 at Christchurch (2W 1L) and a "home" win at Mt Smart over Storm.

While it's a nice gesture to the warriors and I've read our boys will recieve a standing ovation game day... It once again shows the clubs attitude to home grounds ie: they don't really give a shit
