Have teams worked us out?

I agree with Eddie 100% any team willing to chance their hand and play a quick up tempo game usually comes up trumps against our mob and I suspect as the season rolls on it is only going to get harder for our team. The bottom line is we are short on a few big quality players and i am sure the club know this, the hard thing is to find these players and attract them to our club

Where were you last week?

Let's actually have a look at each game individually and I'll try sum it up quickly from my memory

Round 1 vs Titans: Good grinding win by us, solid D at the end
Round 2 vs Dragons: Early attacking onslaught, grinding out a win. Dragons played mostly up the middle
Round 3 vs Souths: Grinded it out as best as possible but Souths better at it than us in ridiculous form.
Round 4 vs Dogs: Great D, grinding it for a while then laying on a few tries. Expansive play quickly decimates us.
Round 5 vs Eels: Grinded out a great win
Round 6 vs Warriors: Expansive play quickly puts us away, we try to grind it but can't comeback from that far back
Round 7 vs Raiders: Quickly put on some points, Raiders play a bit expansive but also up the middle with the wind at their back. Not much resilience either way.
Round 8 vs Bulldogs: Grind it out for as long as necessary then pile on the points as they tire.
Round 9 vs Roosters: Grind it out and they play expansively and crush us with some calls their way.

if that's too long to read fair enough.

in summary, we can grind it out to stay competitive then put on some points. If teams play expansively effectively we often can't handle it and let in a lot of points very quickly before getting back into the grind. By then it's too late.

So fixing up that defensive weakness will allow us to force teams either to make errors or play a lot tighter which is where we're more comfortable anyway.

I think you've given a very reasoned assessment there. To me, I think we've been in the "grind" quite solidly. It's just a matter of what comes beyond that? At the game on Friday night, I was feeling ok with how our boys were handling the big Roosters pack. Sure, we were out-muscled, out-skilled,out-enthused in some regards, but it was our inability to come up with a decisive play on tackle 5 or 6 after doing all that good work. And, that has to come down to the options or ability of our play makers…Farah, Brooks and Moses. They came off a clear second best on Friday night.

Good post mate…I have said before and I will say it again, our last play options are very poor,if it is JTs structure,he had better change it...

We won't have a forward pack if it keeps up,they do all the hard work for it to be a fizzed at the end.....that's how teams lose confidence and good players...our forwards will be burnt out before the season is half over, hard work for no result....

Eddie must be his alter ego - the reasonable side of AXH

yes I do agree with a lot of what Eddie writes on this forum as he tends to stand back and takes the Weststigers glasses off a calls things how they are without being a drama queen. His posts are always worth a read and that can not be said for everyone who posts on this forum.

Anyway it's a free forum and I have a right to agree or disagree with anyone who puts up a post

having no idea of contracts and whatnot.

off the top of my head, maybe a Mannering or Corey Parker type player. obviously they wont come to our club but someone in that mould and not quite as good (doubt we have a tonne of space).

add in the development of our own players

Taylors tactics are poor atm imo.

What do we offer 5 hit ups making plenty of ground mind you 1 pass from dummy half then a defensive bomb. No offloads switches of play support play the halves do nothing simona and teddy hardly getting ball. We have no attack atm and even with sub 8 errors and penalties conceded we loose.

If this tactic is to be developed once fundamentals are learned good otherwise everyone will work us out we will get clobbered.

Like Taylors ideas on not playing guys out of position defense and injury management but miss Potters and Sheens attacking tactics.

Most teams have worked out to belt our halves, wont take long for them to work out the rest….

especially that we have no attack at the moment, having said that,it may come soon...

I think it boils down to us being one prop short, and a bit too much of Robbie running the show.

I said in another thread, Sue back playing bodyguard out wide to Moses, keeps his agression on the park longer as well… thats solved by signing a prop or lock. Getting the wide men involved more another issue.

And Brooks and Moses generally getting the ball in hand once per set, some times only to put up a kick. How are the supposed to be involved if they arent getting the pill? I agree they do get it a little more often in the opposition 20, but they havent played into the game, have a feel for it if that makes sense. I am starting to notice that Robbie has taken on half of the brief, he isnt doing it all, relinquishing most of the kicking, though he stifles any possible width through his selection of feeding the pigs in tight all game. Some games it has been amazingly successful I will admit, but when we are being dominated running forwards behind the ruck he all but refuses to switch the game up. Im not trying to tar and feather Robbie here, though I am all but positive he is playing a bigger hand in our offensive impotency than many of you may notice.

Someone summed it up earlier, I dont think it has as much to do with other teams figuring us out, more that we havent figured ourselves out.
