Hey Hey Furore!!

I don't know if any of you watched that hey hey reunion show last night but I bet you have all heard about a skit that was on red faces by now.

The fact that one stupid yank gets his panties in a bunch about a relatively harmless sketch depicting the jackson 5 with afros and black faces and MJ with a white face is ridiculous.
Harry Connick Jr is a turd of the smelliest kind for starting what is fast becoming a race war with Americas black community.

What this ugly moron didn't take into account was that the Jackson 5 - including Michael - did have black skin and afro hair do's and that later in life Michael became a white man. So what?? It was a gentle piss-take.

The performers in question were all smart guys - all 6 are doctors - and they are from all different backgrounds…..in fact only one of them is caucasion!!! These guys are all mortified that it has turned out like this as it was clearly not their intention.

Fair dinkum what has this world come to? We all have something about ourselves that our mates stir us about, it's called being an Aussie and having a sense of humour.

Harry Connick Jr is lower than a snakes ring gear for blowing what was harmless fun out into an international incident. He should be ashamed of himself.

Hey Hey is a rubbish show so I didn't watch it.

However I have no problem with it.

Matter of fact I boot polished myself up real good this morning

I'm sick of hearing about it.. Mass Media saturation of something that was fairly trivial. and if all the media outlets here didn't make it into a big deal it would never have made it back to america and their media outlets.

People in society have become too precious these days.
I dare say it wasn't their intention to offend anyone, they were simplay doing a song and dance routine that was light hearted entertainment.

Jo Beth Taylor looked so damn hot it was ridiculous.

Oh yes. Those legs. Unbelieveable.

On the topic - Really a blow up over nothing. Shows like South Park or Family Guy which are originally made and intended for American audiences have made jokes and said things far far worse than that act last night. I'm a big fan of Harry Connick Jnr but he really should have said nothing. Imagine an Australian performer going on an American Tv show and complaining about its content after singing two songs and having your new CD plugged about 3 different times.

There are some things which are not allowed to be joked about for some reason or other. Eg the holocaust, people who have recently died, children dying and apparently pretending to be black is also a no no. What makes these untouchable and anything else a fair target? The only answer I can come up with is there is a vocal group who will raise hell if you try.

Shows like the Chasers War on Everything is a prime example. The name of the show says it all. They refuse to not make jokes about anyone and every now and again they step over a line that people don't like. I loved their eulogy song from a few years back because it was so true. They were pointing out that you can say things against people when they are alive but they all of a sudden become saints when they die. People who complained about the song just proved its point.

I didn't laugh at their skit about the make a wish foundation, not because I was offended but because I didn't find it funny or clever.

Coming back to Hey Hey, I don't find this segment offensive. The performers were not making fun of black people in general. They were portraying a caricature of the Jackson Five and Michael Jackson. Sure, it was a crappy caricature, but what would you expect from Red Faces?

If you were to portray a caricature of Adolf Hitler, would you have a false moustache? Of course. Does that automatically offend anyone with a moustache? Of course not.

If you were a male portraying Queen Elizabeth, would you wear a dress? Of course. Does that automatically offend all people who wear dresses? Of course not.

What gets me about it is that this Harry Connick clown was big noting himself by making out that he was sticking up for his country against a racial attack - " if you did this in America…" well no crap moron. It wasn't done over there, it was done here on a lightweight comedy program for cheap laughs as a parody - and thats all.

You watch his star rise now as he returns triumphantly to the states and then goes on a talk show circuit blitz bad mouthing us.

A big media fuelled furore about nothing. It was a funny skit … some people (HC Jr) need to get a sense of humour. As has been said before, it was just a send up of the Jackson 5\. The media are being far too precious. The Tele had a poll on it and only 24% of people were offended by it, so it seems to be a big media beat up.

Now the American media is all over us.

I mean how is painting 4 guys black and one white being racist? I mean thats what they are/were right?

Based on that i must be teasing people with glasses when I put my glasses on!

From the onlinedictionary:

racist - a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others.

I dont see how these guys were saying one race is more superior then the other.

I learnt some history through all this.
In the 1800s & early 1900s blacks were not allowed on stage or screen anywhere, whites would paint themselves black whenever they wished to piortray a black, eventually it turned into a giant pisstake at blacks expense, whites laughing at blacks…the blacks of course had no rights, no recourse, no nothing...no wonder they were angry.
They see this these days and it opens old wounds, harry Connick jnr is from New Orleans in the deep south, this would be an issue deep with him I assume.
It wasnt funny, it wasnt racist - imo - it was stupid & ignorant. If some dont find it offensive that doesnt make OK if someone does find it offensive.
We should all try to learn from things like this.

Harry painted his face black a few years back and pretended to be black man in a comedy skit with a pretend black preacher…......good for the goose Hypocrit conic junior!
