After 8 days in fermenter, I keg mine, then aerate for 3 days at 25 lb pressure, chill , drink. If you are really thirsty and have two kegs, put the remaining 4 ltrs in second keg, hook up to gas, lay keg on ground roll back and forth counting to 100, chill, drink, tastes fine

For your 1st brew using a keg I would just carbonate for 3 days and not rush it. Also remember the longer you leave it the better it will taste.

So carbonate at 25 pressure for three days at what temp ?

I use 12psi for 5 days at 2 degrees. There are a few different methods you can use. See this website: https://www.ikegger.com/blogs/ikeggerworld/how-to-keg-beer-part-4-cold-crashing-and-force-carbonating
Also read this section on how to fill your keg, especially the bit under the "Seal and Pressure" heading; you don't want to lose all your gas! https://www.ikegger.com/blogs/ikeggerworld/how-to-keg-beer-part-3-the-essential-guide-to-filling-a-keg

Do you use ikegger gear mate?

No, I use Keg King. Have their Kegerator fridge (series 2) with 2 taps, holds two 19 litre kegs plus odds & ends (a few bottles, some hops etc). The newer series have more useable fridge space.

Yeah, I'm looking at updating some equipment and trying to decide who to go with lol

There's plenty of info on the internet about carbonation.

I use the carbonation chart from this website and it's always worked out ok. The temp is in farenheit so you'll need to convert it.

Good luck with it. I'm looking forward to hearing about the results.

I've spent the morning putting down a nut brown ale.

Special thanks to @Bones for his advice.

I adjusted my mill grain as you suggested and conditioned the grain. Best mill I've ever had. Added 250 grams of rice hulls to my 5kg grain bill and had really good circulation through the mash stage and a fairly quick sparge (about 35 minutes).

I hit both the suggested pre-boil; and opening gravity, so no loss of brew efficiency.

Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks fellas

Post up pics of the final product plus a hangover scale lol

You want wrongness of head?

For sure ..
A good head will support a 5 cent coin for 3 seconds

Any of you fellas use a Temprite?

Thinking about trying to get my hands on a 2 pour Temprite. Problem is a lot of the older ones run on R22 and the gas is super expensive now that it's been phased out.

Another question, best starter kit if I'm going to keg instead of bottles.

HI CB. I was waiting for some clever person to answer your question but maybe they're all as stumped as I am. I'm not sure what a good starter kit for kegging would be. My son set me up with everything I needed a couple of years ago.

Keg King is an importer/wholesaler of homebrew kegging equipment. They're located in Melbourne, but If you go onto their website you'll be able to find a list of stockists. No doubt there will be one near you. That might be the best place to go for advice.

These days I have several 19l Cornelius Kegs and a couple of 9.5l kegs. (I can fit three kegs into my kegerator). But I started off with just one 9.5l keg which I was able to keep in my garage fridge. I have a little hand gun that goes with it and I was able to drag it out onto the back deck for those rare Melbourne sunny days or even stick it in a tub of ice and take it on a picnic. That might be the way to go at first.

I've been told by everyone I know that brews not to do bottles because they are a pain.

I vaguely remember when I was little my father had a batch explode in his shed too. A whole bunch of king browns turned into frag grenades.

I used to brew and bottle years ago - so much washing, rinsing, draining, sanitising, rinsing again, draining. Kegging is so much easier. Only one vessel, so much less cleaning and sanitising.

Also, I ferment under pressure then transfer under pressure directly into kegs (or sometimes a secondary fermenter). That's definitely worth looking into, because the brew never comes into contact with air so you avoid a lot of the opportunity for spoilage from airborne bacteria and yeasts.

My brother recently went with a kit from ikegger, he got a system with a 19l keg and a mini 5l keg for keeping in the fridge or taking to a mates. Both kegs run off soda stream bottles, he loves it but due to covid I haven't seen him since Christmas when I put helped him put down his 1st brew, so I haven't been able to check it out.

They are based in Alexandria

Thanks lads. Just weighing up investment versus output. Don't want to cheap out and produce crap beer. I don't want to spend a fortune either as the Minister of finance and war will let me know haha.

Setup my brother got came in under $450, I've had a look at it in vids and it looks pretty good.
